Conducting a Game study for Grad School!!! Please help!! :)

Hello everyone, just as the title states I am conducting a study over character attachment and our virtual bonds with avatars, AI companions, and other NPCs in role playing video games. All of this is completely voluntary, and will be kept confidential
in the findings, however this is a forum so what you post in reply will probably be visible. However, in the results of the study, you will remain anonymous. Below are the interview questions that I would like to hear as much detail as possible from you all.
Please only participate if you are 18 years or older. Also as said before, this is completely voluntary.

Thank you all for your time!!! It will be greatly appreciated.

    1) What do you find most appealing about video games?

    2) What do you find most appealing about Role Playing Games?

    3) What are your primary reasons for playing Role Playing Games?

    4) How do you feel when you play Role Playing Games?

    5) Could you describe how you feel about Avatars (your character) in Role Playing Games?

    6) How do you feel when you are able to create your own avatar?

    7) When creating your avatar, what do you feel is most important to include?

    8) What do you think friendship is?

    9) Could you please describe a time when you felt a connection with your created avatar?

    10) What do you think spawned this feeling? (referring to above question)

    11) Have you ever felt like there was something more between you and your avatar?

    12) Could you describe possibly why you felt this way toward your avatar?

    13) How do you feel about pre-fabricated avatars? (Not being able to create/customize your character in the beginning)

    14) Do you feel that you’ve had similar experiences involving a connectedness with the pre-fabricated avatar as the created avatar?

    15) When do you think these connections start to form?

    16) Can you describe a time you felt a connection to the pre-fabricated avatar?

    17) Can you give me an example of how you could form a “bond” with either types of avatar?

    18) When thinking about Non Playable Characters Companions in Role Playing Games, what do you find is most important about them being a part of the game?

    19) When thinking about Non Playable Characters (ones that are not your companions) What do you find is most important about them being a part of the game?

    20) When have you felt displeased or pleased by NPCs?

    21) When have you felt displeased by Companions?

    22) How do you feel when your companion dies?

    23) Why do you think you feel that way?

    24) Why do you think it is possible to be a friend with an avatar/NPC/companion?

    25) Where do you see Role Playing Games going in the future?

    26) Is there anything you would like to add?

    :)

Conducting a Game study for Grad School!!! Please help!! :)

This might sound a little harsh so I apologise in advance.

However if you're going to a University offering a Graduate Course that will allow you to submit, as part of your research for your Graduate Thesis, the ramblings of a bunch of "Johnny Nobodies" on an internet forum you need to demand they return your Tuition
    Fees.

The question you raise is an interesting one but your so called research approach can't be qualified.

Get some games that have great characters and relationships in them and get people in a control group to play them and ask them how they "felt" about it all.

    You'd love "Dragon Age: Inquisition".

You can't got a chapter without having to do a "Feelings" run with all the characters to just check on how they are feeling.

"Knights Of The Old Republic" is a brilliant one which was one of the first to introduce relationships into games. "The Last Of Us" apparently has you form a strong bond with a non-player character.

"Enslaved: Odyssey To The West" had you form a relationship and attachment with Tripp. "Mass Effect" had you trying to catch feelings for half your crew or more.

"Skyrim" has companions and even let you marry.

Best advice you're gonna get all thread...

Go and speak to your professor before you try and take this any further.

Hi!! I am glad that you found this as a concern. However, this is part of the research as well, I am also conducting in-depth interviews with people that are also interested in the above games you have listed. I have done an extensive literature review over
the phenomenon called character attachment which is indeed almost exclusive to video games it self. It is different from parasocial relationships which would occur with TV personalities, characters from books, etc. For further explanation as to why I am gathering
some results from forums is to see what type of answers I would receive vs face to face interviews. Also, to be noted that some people do like to open up more behind a screen, that anonymity gives some security to answers that are given. That is why this part
of posting on gaming forums is OK as data. I assure you that there are plenty of political studies using social media published by PHDs that use coding to find themes arriving from tweets, facebook posts, ect. It is a qualitative collection requiring the researcher
to go further into the text and form typologies gathered from all of the results. Hopefully, to ultimately construct a connection of interweaving experiences to grounded theory. I hope that gives a little more insight on why I am conducting this type of a
questionnaire Conducting a Game study for Grad School!!! Please help!! :) :) Again, I really appreciate your concern on the topic, if this was my only form of data I would agree and say that it might not qualify. It is only a portion.

Might be; Not sure what it was called. I was going through grad school during that time, so I could have very easily missed some sort of communication about it.
