Completely change the e-mail address associated with XBox?

I have been doing some reorganizing of my digital life, and have a new address that I am trying to transfer everything over to. I have my XBox Live account created with (for example) old_address@hotmail and I want to move it over to new_address@outlook.

I have already created new_address@outlook and am using it with some of my other digital services. Is there a way to completely change my XBox profile to my new_address and remove old_address? What would happen if I add new_address, make it the Primary and then remove old_address?

Or am I out of luck, and have to keep old_address in order to keep all of my previous XBox data/purchases/achievements.

This does suggest Microsoft account is associated with the wrong email. What I would do is on the Xbox with the Gamertag you believe is the right one is check the E-mail address associated with it. A Gamertag is associated with a Microsoft Account but
the E-mail address that is associated with a Microsoft Account\E-mail address can change. Hope that helps and makes sense.

Allow me to share this, here are the possible reasons why there is an error when changing the email address:

1.The desired Email is Already Associated with Another Microsoft Account.

2. The desired Email is Associated with a Previously Created Account.

3.The desired Email is Reserved or Inactive.

When you will receive an error when setting the new email to your account, I would highly suggest for you to use another email to be your alias or primary alias.

Kindly make sure that the new email shouldn't be associated to another Microsoft account and most importantly not associated with a previously Created Account. When you pass this part, you will surely be able to set up a new email address to your account.

And when you delete the old email everything on the email will be deleted like the entire account itself.

You can leave the email on the account but make sure to set the new email to be the primary email so that you will be using it when signing into the account.

Hello!

If I'm reading this correctly, your best option would be to tie your Xbox Account to your personal e-mail address (Change the e-mail associated with it under your info). Then create a new Microsoft account with your "work" e-mail address.
