Compensation for New Xbox One Owners Broken by Microsoft Update?

I recently purchased my first brand new Xbox One a week ago, online, from Newegg. I received the console on Monday and during initial setup I downloaded a single large system update. Imagine my surprise when my Xbox One would not read any Xbox One game
discs. It could read DVDs and Blu-ray movie discs, but when I inserted my brand new Battlefield 4 disc, the dashboard tile just continued to say "Please insert disc". I had a friend bring over a game that he plays regularly and it also would not read in
my console. I contacted Microsoft support and they said I had two options: exchange the system from my retailer or send it to Microsoft for service. I asked about their advanced exchange service, where they would send me a replacement console while I would
send in my console, cutting down the time I would be without the system. They said they could not do that because my console would be repaired, not replaced. He said repairs may take 2-4 weeks. So, at this point, I contact Newegg and do an RMA and ship
it back to them. They won't receive my Xbox until Monday, and said it may take 2-5 business days to "process" the RMA and then however long it would take to ship a replacement. At the moment, it looks like I'm still going to be waiting for ~ 2 weeks to even
be able to play the Xbox One I purchased.

When the Xbox One launched, some systems had defective optical drives and customers had to send those systems in for service. Microsoft compensated those customers with a free digital download of a selection of full games.

I would argue that this is worse than the problems at launch. Defective hardware components are never fun, but there is some accepted percentage of occurrence because it just happens. With this though, it wasn't just bad luck. This was poor software testing
of an update. The new Xbox One systems not working was directly caused by Microsoft's negligence. Some users on here reported exchanging multiple conosles over the course of Monday and Tuesday and them all having the same issue.

I don't find it unreasonable to ask for some type of compensation for having to deal with this headache and not being able to play my Xbox One for weeks because Microsoft broke it.

They should really be ashamed, because it's not like this hasn't happened before. Go back to November 2006 and the Fall 2006 Xbox 360 dashboard update was bricking brand new Xbox 360 systems that were updating directly from launch version to the Fall 2006
version. A California man even filed a lawsuit over that mess. This situation is no different. Microsoft broke thousands of systems, some type of compensation would be a nice gesture.

Microsoft giving free digital games for users with broken disc drives

Well, Microsoft is doing something at least. This is a great compensation for the new Xbox One owners out there still having the disc drive issues. Now at least with the free game choices (like Dead Rising 3 --- yes!) they should have something to occupy their time while the disc drive problem gets the solution.

i was supposed to use my brand new machine 4 days ago, now i have to send it back to US for a possible exchange or repair... *** that *** man.... I spent the money but I can't play the game because of their faults till who knows when...don't we deserve a
compensation?
