Compatible External Hard Drives For Xbox One

My xbox one has the 500 GB hard drives and it is now 100% full. Im looking for a compatible 2TB+ external hard drive that I don't have to manually format or mess with. Does one like that exist? Any suggestions would be awesome!

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

Hi there, I believe the Xbox One will format any external hard drive so make sure you don't buy one with additional software installed as you're throwing money away. Unfortunately there is no compatibility list, but make sure it has a capacity of 256 GB
or more and uses USB 3.0.

I recently bought a western digital 4tb and it took minutes to format and hasn't skipped a beat since. Look here for more information on external hard drives:

I just got a western digital 2 TB drive. All you have to do is plug it in and xbox asks you if you want to format. It's really simple. My friends referred me to this brand. It's pretty cheap I paid 89.00. Works like a charm too.

One last question. Which version of the Western Digital hard drives did you guys get? There is the My Cloud. The My Book. The My Passport. Or something else?

I can't tell you the difference between all of them, but it's mostly the software that comes with it. I think the cloud can connect to a router and then any device on that network can use it as storage, though I don't think that works for the Xbox unless
you connect it directly and then it formats all that software off it so it's essentially a waste.

I got the WD 'Elements' 4tb which even states on the box 'basic storage' so I'd recommend any of the same with higher or lower capacity.

External disc drives will not be compatible with the Xbox One as external hard drives do. If the drive is bad, then you should start a service request
for it at Microsoft Device Support.

Unfortunately you will need to get the Xbox brand hard drives, since external ones aren't compatible with the console

No it will not kill your hard drive. Just make sure you get an external hard drive compatible with Xbox.

The hard drive in the system is 500 gb. It can support a minimum 250 gb external hard drive. As far as I know you can store games that are compatible with Xbox One on an external hard drive but not music or movies. No one knows when the system will be
backwards compatible or if it will be at all. You can play blu rays but not digital copies of movies unless you go through a service like Netflix, Red Box etc that Xbox One supports.
