Both Comcast and Microsoft have been moving towards each other on converging paths. That is to say, Comcast has begun developing it's own technology in it's X1 Entertainment System. Comcast once used Windows Embedded 3, 4, & 5 on boxes created by Scientific
Atlanta who was then purchased by Cisco. But Comcast has taken steps towards becoming a "technology" company.

Microsoft had begun penetrating the entertainment market, even creating it's own studios. As they've withdrawn from that venture, HBO no longer views them as a competitor.

As Comcast aims to redefine itself as a "technology" company, they will continue fighting Roku & Microsoft. They all want control of your TV, and Comcast's system sucks. They will lose that battle.

They will still win in the long run, given the "hybrid" measures the FCC aims to introduce. While the FCC will ensure our
cable internet bills remain basically the same; prices of digital services to go up as tier 1, 2, and 3 networks will be allowed to regulate their own interconnects. What that means is Comcast can charge whichever ISP is hosting 3rd party content,
extra money to connect to it's network and deliver that content.

If Microsoft, HBO, & Netflix pays extra, guess who that cost will be passed down to?

The Sherman Antitrust Act exists so that government can intercede when one company holds a monopoly.

Unfortunately, the reputability of current American politicians is nonexistent and this will be a problem for the foreseeable future.

Hell, even the president's head of secret service just worked as Lead Comcast corporate security for 3 years. They don't even need to lobby anymore.

I wouldn't doubt that time Warner is behind the hold up as well. Time warner & comcast are joined at the hip. Time Warner gets the western US and Comcast got the East. HBO wants to offer their service al a carte, I.e. Like Netflix. That's why the net neutrality
laws mean something. If HBO does it, ISP's will only charge you more for faster streaming. ISP's need to be controlled. They spend more on lobbying in the US than the primary military contractor for the US...Applaud HBO for their efforts, but there will be
a consequence, unless people use their voice...

    That's quite alright Miss Q.

The conversation is bit far reaching for Xbox support. Perhaps, you could copy it over on the FCC forums as well.

O wait, the FCC don't have forums ;)

HBO will be offered stand-alone next year (cable sub not required)...that might have something to do with it as well. I bet all cable companies are not pleased with HBO right now.
