The authentication system HBO uses to validate users has been dependent on Content Providers allowing access to it's databases.

While I don't have access to contracts signed between Comcast and HBO, it's fair to say that device restrictions are allowed. For instance, Comcast authenticates all HBO devices with the exception of Roku. This infers that the contract between Comcast and
HBO allows for prohibiting certain devices from being authorized to receive streaming services.

Comcast has refused to authenticate Viacom's Comedy Central and VH1 apps. However, Viacom has released the apps anyways with Comcast subscriber's left in the dark.

HBO GO is aiming for parity on release which is why this is taking so long as Comcast is refusing to authenticate.

HBO recently announced that they will fore go content providers and offer a streaming plan directly to consumers. The timing of this announcement either indicates it's being used as leverage, or more damningly, talks with Comcast have turned sour.

Either way, expect the HBO GO app for Xbox One to released soon, with Comcast subscribers potentially excluded.

    :)

    WHERE ARE THE APPS!

Comcast needs to make their Xfinity app, that isn't up to MS when it comes. Verizon made there's fairly quickly, so I'd direct complaints to Comcast... I know I have already. The HBO GO app should be out soon last I heard.

When will XBOX ONE have an HBO GO app? Will it be ready soon or will XBOX ONE never have an HBO GO app?

I hope so, sick and tired of waiting for the HBO go app on the Xbox one. They need to bring ShowTime anytime as well.

    ???

Showtime's decision relates to CBS and has little to do with one uncooperative content provider.

Shortly after posting this, an anonymous redditor, did in fact post screenshots of the HBO GO app being tested on an Xbox One.

What is unknown at this point is whether Comcast will be authenticating Xbox Ones. If Comcast excludes it's customers, the backlash will be bad. I take it more than one or two of these Senators have grandchildren with Xbox Ones who will be unhappy at Comcast
preventing them from watching the HBO GO.

    Sigh. Politics.

Comcast already excludes the NFL apps. I tried switching to Comcast from FiOS but went back immediately after I realized this and noticed that there's no comcast app on Xbox either.. I let them knownwhy I was canceling too.

    That's quite alright Miss Q.

The conversation is bit far reaching for Xbox support. Perhaps, you could copy it over on the FCC forums as well.

O wait, the FCC don't have forums Comcast is the cause behind the Xbox One's HBO GO delay, but the app will be released soon ;)

All I'm going to say regarding the matter is that IMO, Comcast is pure evil...

HBO will be offered stand-alone next year (cable sub not required)...that might have something to do with it as well. I bet all cable companies are not pleased with HBO right now.

  12. HBO has always been a premium service and it realizes that by becoming a stand-alone service without having to rely on the cable companies, it can cash in on a lot more customers since times are changing. It's called "Home-Box Office" for a reason and right
now, Netflix is beating it in that very regard.

  13. Comcast is the cause behind the Xbox One's HBO GO delay, but the app will be released soon

I wouldn't doubt that time Warner is behind the hold up as well. Time warner & comcast are joined at the hip. Time Warner gets the western US and Comcast got the East. HBO wants to offer their service al a carte, I.e. Like Netflix. That's why the net neutrality
laws mean something. If HBO does it, ISP's will only charge you more for faster streaming. ISP's need to be controlled. They spend more on lobbying in the US than the primary military contractor for the US...Applaud HBO for their efforts, but there will be
a consequence, unless people use their voice...

  15. I'm on Comcast now... *sigh* Wish I had a choice. I guess if you live in a small town, there isn't much choice. It's either them or DSL for internet. Sure would be nice to have FiOS as a choice, but every time I check on availability I get the same story.
I look online and it says "Not yet available in your area". If I call to ask why... "There isn't enough demand in your area."

I guess I can't complain about the gaming connection, it's pretty good considering it's Comcast. But DSL is the only alternative in this area for internet and pretty much nothing else for TV (except satellite). I would love to call them and tell them I'm
switching to FiOS because I'm tired of paying all this $ to have them pull stuff like this.
