  1. Comcast HDMI-in w/ HDMI-out to projector, optical audio to AV receiver: no sound

    Greetings--

I have an older projector that does not handshake properly with my newer AV receiver (5.1 surround sound) via HDCP. So I've used optical audio out to successfully get sound. Before introducing the Xbox, then, I had my Comcast box HDMI-out directly wired
to my projector, and the Comcast box digital audio-out connect to the AV receiver. This works fine.

I introduced the Xbox. So now I have:

Comcast box HDMI-out to Xbox HDMI-In.

    Xbox HDMI-out to project

Xbox digital-audio out to the AV receiver.

This works fine when using the Xbox itself. However, for "Live TV:" I receive a picture fine, but cannot get audio working.

I can manually switch the optical audio to output directly from the Comcast box to the AV receiver, and of course this works (but I'd rather not of course).

I've mucked with all of the Audio settings (for the console itself as well as those under live TV) and nothing appears to generate sound on live TV.

Is the Xbox capable of converting the HDMI-in signal from the cable box and sending it out over digital audio (and of course still send the image via HDMI out)?

Any help greatly appreciated. I searched but did not see a post with a setup the same as mine.

    :)

    Xbox One and Projector?

In regards to the video/audio split

    Ideal scenario:

You have a newer receiver that accepts multiple HDMI inputs. Using HDMI this will allow the sound to run through the receiver first thus outputting sound there. Sure you'll have to mute the projector sound.

    My setup:

An older receiver with optical inputs, but no HDMI. I bypass the receiver for all video using a small HDMI auto switching box ($10 on Amazon). Use the receiver for sound only, usually the optical. Since the HDMI box auto switches, there are no more steps
to changing the source then if I had a newer receiver. The sound does travel through the HDMI still, but I just mute the projector.

This works great until I want to hook something up that has ONLY HDMI, such as the latest design for the Xbox 360. I would need some sort of contraption that splits the two, which I think are out there.

If your stereo/receiver doesn't accept optical...then you could try this

SPDIF Optical Audio Cord not working.

ok, the optical audio connection on Tv's is an output only in which case what you're trying isn't going to work, you need to connect the optical audio out on the Xbox to an amp or av/receiver etc. I would stick with HDMI audio to be honest.

XBox 360 E and component video? digital audio?

I had a question as well about the 360 E and audio. I am going to run HDMI into my TV for video, but I want to run audio out of my Yamaha AV receiver. It says on support site to sun a stereo cable out from your tv to the av box.

Well my TV has an optical audio out that I can go to optical audio on my AV receiver, shouldn't I be able to get digital audio this way out of my 360 E

XBox 360 E and component video? digital audio?

if you are sending the E via HDMI to anything that has an optical out then you can run that optical out to the av receiver and get 5:1 digital audio, so says the xbox support specific on the 360 E

No audio through optical cable to surround sound system. XBox One

    Hi,

I'm having a very similar problem (SkyQ to X-box one via HDMI and then audio from X-box to Cambridge Audio AV Receiver [too old for HDMI] via optical).

My AV Receiver detects the incoming Dolby but reports only two channels (no centre speaker and no surround speakers).

I've tried all sorts and now suspect that this is perhaps caused by some digital rights management issues with optical not being able to support the DRM.

I am waiting on receiving an HDMI-optical converter and will post if this fixes the problem. :)

    Cheers for now..! :)
