Combating CommBan Abuse

Everywhere you look on here and abound you'll find people saying "Someone baited me, I responded, they reported me and got me banned."

Sometimes people reply to '[insert flaming]' with '[Mod Removed - Inappropriate]', other times (in my case), it's a response as simple as 'Feel like a big man, boiiii?'

It's annoying, it's clearly being used by trolls to abuse people (how many people have you heard about getting invited to a party by a bunch of 15-year-old swear-bears* that proceed to scream 'CommBan' the second they respond?), and it's a hard thing to fix.

The system needs to be there for legitimate harassment, but knee-jerk reactions to trolling happen a lot.

My suggestion--and I'm aware Microsoft doesn't look at these forums--is to add a little notification when you get sent a message from someone who isn't a friend on Xbox Live, something to the effect of 'Responding to harassment with what could be classified
as abusive language is a breach of your user agreement and can result in a communications ban. If this message is harassment, consider reporting the message and blocking the user.'

Personally, I grew up in a time when flamers were usually just ignored and ostracized by the community at large and feel like the entire report system is mostly only ever going to be used by trolls, but that's just me.

*because [Mod Removed - Inappropriate] else am I going to call them without getting rained down on with CommBans?

Edit to add I can't seem to reply to comments anymore (good ol' Microsoft's 'Oop!' error, and no, I won't uninstall Norton) and to say I'm starting to think you ambassador-types read the first three lines, assume the rest, then comment ASAP so you can get those
tasty upvotes.

I've said I understand the rules, I haven't even argued their validity, I've literally just suggested a system that a ton of other platforms utilise (Goodreads comes to mind).

This is a discussion board, for gamers to discuss things about what affects their gaming experience. I put feelers out to see what other gamers thought, not to change the rules.

There is no excuse for breaking the ToU/CoC. Also, there is nothing anyone in the forums can do as those decisions are made my the Enforcement Team.

You should log into the enforcement team website for information where you can also submit a case review if the suspension is eligible.

If any rule breaking happens in game, it is a bit hard for Microsoft to enforce the Code of Conduct on developers server.

Anything that Microsoft can monitor and investigate for example the messages, party chat etc. They can enforce any breaches of the Code of Conduct.

I have been playing games for years and have never retaliated to another person even the trolls. If i feel that the person is being rude towards me ill just ignore the messages and report them if it is breach of the Code of Conduct.

I agree that certain toxic players thrive of 'baiting' others. I feel the best way to counter this negativity is to simply ignore them.

Openly admitted I knew Microsoft doesn't pay attention to these things.

I put this in the discussion section so that likeminded/not-so-likeminded gamers could have a discussion.
