Combat Tips and suggestions for a new player

I am loving this game so far... I did not play the first two, and was really looking forward to playing a new RPG on my xbox one.

The combat style is nothing like I have played before (controlling 4 people, etc.)., and I am really sucking at it. For one, I do not totally understand each followers powers, and am not sure when/where to use them. Two, I am not really understanding how
to control the party to do what I would like them to do. I can figure out how to target someone, what ability to use, etc., but thats about all.

I am getting my butt kicked on some really easy fights, at least they seem they should be easy since I am only 3-4 hours into the game. I am on a quest on the quest to close to of the rifts on the storm coast, trying to close the second..

I am playing as a rouge elf, and have Solas, Varric and Cassandra as my followers.

Anyone have any tips/advice, or perhaps even a web site that can show some of the basics of this tactical combat?

Thanks fellas

:)

Stay away from Old Olney until you are of a higher level (18+), get the Terrible Shotgun from Smiling Jack in Evergreen Mills and don't forget to pick up the energy weapons bobblehead when you are in the Enclave base.
Theres a nice suite or Body armor at Old Oleny! Prototype medic power armor! its in the sewers somewhere.. there is three ways you can get power armor training ask 1. Operation Ancorage DLC 2. Ask elder Lyons just after your first
encounter with him 3. Im not 100% but I think the PITT will give you auto power armor, only reason I dont know for sure IS I have never done it without HAVING Power Armor Training..

well first of all SAVE SAVE and SAVE your progress in the game when you get the chance specially before talking to any NCP. the DLC are good, you should download Broken Steel first so you can go on playing after you finished the main quest. it doesn't really
matter which DLC you play first except for Broken steel which actives after you completed the main quest line. Operation Anchorage is best to do early one because its the most easiest of all the DLC combined & the loot at the end is great. for me the order
that the DLC should be done is:

1) Operation Anchorage

2) Broken Steel (after the main questline)

3) The Pitt

4) the Alien DLC or Point Lookout (this two are the hardest DLC so it should be done at high level character).

still its up to you on which DLC you want to do first.
I wouldnt download Broken steele until you need to UNLESS you like to run into
ALBINO RADSCORPIONS & REAVER FERAL GHOULS..just my opinion, I always wait until I have a decent weapon to kill these with, UNLESS you can take down a HOARD of rad scorpions with a
Hunting rifle.. the best DLC to start off with is easily
Operation Anchorage
, then go to the Point lookout careful though its a very difficult place to stay alive BUT go to some
Grotto I forgot what its called an read piks journal, it will give you an extra 10% damage on your all your weapons.. the ferryman will tell you if you ask him about the place
Point Lookout..

Welcome, So a tip that's spoken but not written every where is that many locations have multiple levels of difficulty. This game is not setup so that you go to place A do everything and kill every one then move on. It's designed to go do "some things" then
move on and later come back. Places like the start up location has level 2-3 boses and level 12 and higher bosses. You are not suppose to stay there till level 12 but leave and come back. The Coast level you are on i did at level 8 after 20hrs in and i play
on hard and it was "easy". I don't know where to see the level of a fight. People say it's there but i don't see it, but get better gear and craft better gear since you can remove them and place them on better. gear.

If a fight kicks the snots out of you maybe leave it. I had too disappointingly but was not going to waste the next 3-4 hours on a low level boss fight when if you do other levels or missions you may get better gear that lets you come back and rule.

Play smart and have fun. There is no need to grind it's a very very long game.

^^ That's what I've been doing. I'm about 6 hours in, and just run around the Hinterlands. I've tried to seal some of the Outskirts rifts, but one of them just owned me. I'm also playing on Hard. I reloaded my last checkpoint, and avoided that one and
went onto a different quest.

6. Get the Iron Bull character as soon as you can. He's on the storm coast but not sure what lvl he shows up as his messenger comes to you in haven. Storm coast is a difficult region till at least 7-8. As far as battle, I just set tactics in the character screen
and use my main character only. Rogue dual blade...Cheers.

7. I am a KE mage, so here's some tips that might help you.

I changed the way the party acts under tactics. Set your range NPC's to defend and your tank to follow.

Also, I have 2-3 spells/abilities I set as a priority for each NPC in my party. Usually, NPC mage casts barrier asap, then AOE damage or dispel. Rogue usually uses a high damage ability then stealth. Warrior is the tank, so I want him to draw agro and get
his guard up asap but I put barrier on him first as I play a mage.

I agree with previous post about getting Iron Bull asap. He's prolly best tank in the game. With him in the party, I usually run Warrior/Rogue/Mage/Mage. For a dragon or big boss, I might switch to 2 warriors/ 2 mages.
