CollectiveMinds Media Hub

Seeing as how the forums have an accessories area, thought I'd drop my two cents on this item since I recently purchased it and now have about a month of experience with it.

Overall, I give it an OK grade. For the price, you would expect it comes with everything you would possibly need. If you really want to have 100% use of the USB 3.0 hub, you need to buy a separate 5 V power supply to plug into it. This item is mostly a very
nice looking hard drive enclosure that keeps the system looking as "stock" as possible. The 3 USB ports on the front are a horrible design choice in my eyes since I would rather keep the front looking clean and any connections be relegated to behind the console.

Installing it physically was not as easy as they make it seem. If you simply try pushing it onto the side of the console, you will SCRATCH the side of it. You need to do a little bit of fine placement to get the Xbox grill to align properly and let the clips
slide in. I noticed 3 of the 4 clips enter perfectly, but the fourth ends up with almost no room due to the grill being shifted. With some fine placement, you can get the 4th one in.

Installing the hard drive is different monster. If you already have a formatted drive that you were using in a different enclosure, the system for whatever reason won't recognize it immediately. I had to power cycle my console several times and unplug and
plug back in the media hub until it was recognized. A few days later, the drive totally stopped being read and I had to format it on my PC then reformat it connected to the Xbox, effectively making me reinstall everything I had on it (yay for cloud saves!).
Since that incident, it has worked fine.

If you want a nice looking enclosure with some halfway powered USB ports, go ahead and spend the $40 on this thing. I had a coupon for eBay that let me get it cheaper, so I'm not complaining much on price. I wouldn't pay full price though.

Auto-Detect limits resolution to 640 X 480 on 4K TV

I'm am using the cable supplied that came with the console, The TV has an external media hub which the HDMI cable is hooked up to and then there is a cable from that media hub to the tv. I removed the media hub cable and hooked it back up and everything
is working correctly now.

 

What did the 360 bring to the table?

The most significant thing 360 brought to the table was the media hub aspect. That was about it.
