Codemasters teases new DiRT game

"Graphics Programmer wanted for a DiRTy little game we've been working on," dev teases.

Codemasters has dropped another hint that it's working on a new game in its popular rally series DiRT.

Posting on
Twitter, the developer said that it was seeking a Graphics Programmer "for a DiRTy little game we've been working on", with the job ad stating that it is "expanding and looking for developers to work on the DiRT and Grid franchises".

Codemasters has yet to announce a new game in the DiRT series. However, earlier this year it was reported that the team behind an unannounced DiRT game had been "downsized" as part of a wider company restructure, with

under 20 staff alleged to be working on the title.

The game was reportedly due to be revealed weeks ago with an "Early Access-style release" planned for the "middle of February", but was alleged to have been delayed after the company failed to "secure car licenses".

The most recent major DiRT title, DiRT Showdown, released on console and PC in 2012.

Looks like Codemasters will be revealing DiRT 4 tomorrow (27th June).

Codemasters is gearing up for what looks like a new game reveal tomorrow, going by the British developer’s Twitter account. And the smart money is on a new DiRT game.

Earlier this morning Codemasters
tweeted the image below, of a Ford rally car, along with the hashtag #ifindoubt and the date, Thursday, June 27th.

Digging a little deeper, the livery of the car is the same as that of the late, great British rally driver Colin McRae. That hashtag, #ifindoubt, relates to McRae’s catchphrase, “If in doubt, flat out.”

Much of the iconography of the image is also reflected in the cover of Colin McRae Rally 2.0,

which has recently been tweeted by the developer in celebration of the game's 13th birthday.

The DiRT series, lest we forget, has evolved from Colin McRae Rally to Colin McRae: Dirt, only ditching the driver's name for 2011's
impressive DiRT 3.

So... putting all that together, Codies is likely to announce a new DiRT game tomorrow, possibly with a retro twist. Cool.







I hope they ditch all the gymkhana rubbish though and focus more on what made the game great in the first place - rallying.

 

DiRT 4

Never played a DiRT game. Is DiRT 3 still worth getting? I was guna buy it on Steam once Codemasters remove GFWL.

Like the DiRT games but they need to focus more on Rallying & less on the other stuff.The less said about Showdown the better.

 

Doesn't sounds too good,for the future of Dirt and Codemasters....

DiRT 1 and 2 were great games. When the Gymkhana crap started to take over, I lost interest quickly. I hope they go back to their roots a bit. Include the other stuff, sure, but don't make it part of the main campaign or a huge part of the acheivements.

I'd be much happier personally if they concentrated on Rallying! Why I did enjoy the Gymkhana events I got bored pretty quick with them.

When I first saw the tweet, "Codemasters teasing .... " ... I was hoping it was going to be news about the new F1 title :/

 

i seem to remember when F1 2015 was released last year only for 360 and ps3 it was said that the next F1 (2016) game will be on the Next gen systems at the start of the next F1 season (seem to release the game half way through the season for some reason)
now the F1 season started last weekend and I have still not heard of an Next gen F1 game coming soon or in the pipeline?

unless anyone else can fill me in?

There's a few articles floating about now about F1 2015 for XB1 ( see link below ) I follow various racing sites and just over the last few days there has been talk/whispers that it will release in June.



F1 2015 details have been leaked alongside a selection of new screenshots.

As the first game in the series to appear on Xbox One and PS4, the screens showcase the game's improved visuals.

According to one of the slides, which have since been taken down, Codemasters is currently making optimisations to hit 60 frames-per-second.

Go to back to the original Dirt roots and this would be one of a very few day one purchases for me !!

 

I think we are going to start seeing licensing have a bigger impact on us getting racing games. Everyone wants a cut and it becomes extremely expensive to develop a racing a game.

I'd prefer they do what Ratbag did in the 90's, early 2000's and just develop racing games with fictitious car names and tracks (I think the Mustang's were called Stallions, etc). Concentrate on physics, gameplay and multiplayer rather than real world cars
and tracks.

Ok it's nice to race around your favourite tracks, whether it be Silverstone, Spa etc but I've always said in posts, I'd love to see some fantasy tracks, why not? I mean there could be some fantastic ideas created.

 

Usually Forza got fantasy tracks too.

And Codemasters problems aren't coming only from licences.
