  1. Co op gaming, wheres it gone?

    hello

surely some people out like me have realised that co op gaming is disappearing. i like all others enjoy playing multiplayer however i also like to sometimes sit back and relax and play through a game with friends.

i mean wheres it all going, most games these days dont have the option and also the option of private games is going as well. why do we now have to play solo or against thousands of people who we dont know or (no offense meant) dont want to play with. a
example of this is call of duty ghosts in squads mode, it says play with your party yet people join all the time who arnt in our party. we just want to play with our friends we know.

more games also are removing co op options and even local play options. even some games are at the point where the only way to get the most out of it is to play in full lobbys.

why cant we just have fun, after all their is a good amount of people out there who like me want to play co op with friends or in small groups.

to sort out a few points.

-when i said people we dont want to play with no offence is meant and also lets face it they probably dont want to play with us either!

-the point i made about call of duty ghosts was just an example, there are other games out there that are the same!

does anyone else out there feel this way?

they should put more pressure on game companys to put co op options in.

    ----------------M5 Legends------------------

just a side note, if anyone is interested in playing resident evil 5 with me message me on xbox. i play 9pm - 1am british time. i have completed it on easy and normal currently trying merceneries.

    :)

all the new ip looked great but....

some of them looked like they will be co op and is it just like a forgone conclusion that no video games anymore even ones when it makes absolute sense to have local co-op will never have local co-op because the gaming industry needs more money even
though its already a multi billion dollar industry.I mean recore and gigantic look like they are co-op and therefore should definitely have local co-op and i hope atleast rare knows gamers want local co-op since many of their games from the golden age of gaming
were co-op and would want to continue that tradition. Is anyone else annoyed by how modern gaming gears more towards online multiplayer instead of local co-op?

    Co-op problem

The co-op portion of the game is horribly coded. It's been like this since Halo 3. If you never experienced the "co-op lag", that's because you get host when you're playing. That's where it starts and ends. Camaro is wrong.

It has nothing to do with your connection especially when gaming hardly uses any bandwidth whatsoever.

I would say that co-op is still going strong. Destiny is a game based around co-op. Plants vs. Zombies has the awesome Garden Ops mode, which is co-op. Minecraft for the One should be released next month and I know that will have it.

Split screen and local co op may be fading away but a lot of games coming out this fall have co op modes and options.

I don't think co-op games are disappearing at all. If anything games are focusing on that too much.

Split screen is just not fun.... No need to use only half or 1/4 of a screen.

As far as co- op goes, You must be joking right??

Multi player and Co-op is bigger than ever... Seems like a decent single player is getting more rare these days.

A list of games without co-op would be shorter IMO. BTW resident evil was a better single player game too...

Co op gaming, wheres it gone?

Gotta agree with the last two commenters. Traditionally single-player franchises have had co-op crowbarred in it's so prevalent. Because for reasons beyond my reckoning big publishers think it adds more appeal. Hopefully that'll change.

Dead Space. Who asked for co-op in 3? If anything adding it alienated its fanbase - even if the devs did try innovating with the drop-in drop-out "seamless" shift - because what SP players got was a SP campaign with jarring cutscenes with a second protagonist
    magically appearing/disappearing throughout.

Resident Evil. Bleh. SP survival horror became SP babysit a dozy AI partner, or co-op and lose all elements of survival horror as your partner spams infinite rockets or talks over the creepy sound design. lol

Eeesh. Co-op can be fun... but players move on, lose interest, and when you go back to play the SP campaign you realise how much the game suffers for the co-op requirement. Whether it be in forever reviving Dom or Sheva... or just waiting on the dim AI to
get to the other switch. Heh.

OP you are right. I love co-op, whether it is split screen or online. Last gen had 2 or 3 decent co-op games (borderlands, dead island....that's about it).

I have some good news for you. It looks like co-op is making a come back this year. In the next few months we have....

    1. Assassins Creed Unity - The first co-op AC game. It looks to be developed around co-op play...and it is a next gen exclusive!
    2. Destiny - You can do the story/missions with multiple friends and your game crosses paths with other groups. This game looks to be based around co-op.
    3. Evolve - A strictly co-op game where 4 players must team up to defeat one 'super' player.
    4. Far Cry 4 - It looks like they will be introducing a more indepth co-op this time around! I loved Far Cry 3.
    5. Dying Light - 4 person co-op. Open world zombies!!
    6. Dead Island 2 - 2 person co-op. Open world zombies!! Never enough brains.
    7. The Division - Looks like an open world co-op game.
    8. The Crew - Open world racing game with co-op available.
    9. Halo masterchief edition - I believe it offers all 4 halo's co-op campaigns.
    10. Minecraft One
Rainbow 6, sunset overdrive, the elder scrolls, sports games, ect.

I think the real problem is that people don't have friends anymore. (lol...srs) People either want to play solo or they want to play a shooter against randoms who they can curse out and belittle with no real world consequence.

I grew up on split screen. In junior high I started with madden franchise marathons with my best friend. We'd get some soda, a pizza and a pack of football cards....Then it was madden all weekend. Then in college I switched to 4 person mario kart/COD
2 split screen. Bottom two scores had to give up their controllers to the next two on the futon.

Too many hardcore gamers are loners/have social anxiety.

So how was he right? Co-op never faded for it to need to make a comeback. Heh.

Last gen had a plethora of co-op games. Thousands, a lot were SP games that had co-op thrown in. You didn't mention Gears of War, it was a co-op game that sold the 360. After Halo it was pretty much a flagship franchise for the system, and it spawned a hundred
    pretenders, all co-op. lol

But as time grinds on the happy co-op memories fade, and guys like the OP have to ask if anybody fancies pairing up on a game that has no traffic and no viable headache-free single-player on harder difficulty settings, lol, usually in a game with a campaign
too long to co-op, at least without players planning for time and sessions, and hopefully staying interested.

IMHO games like Gears fade from view when the next title hits, while SP games like Skyrim retain more players three Elder Scrolls later. I hope this gen finds a balance between SP and MP. Because playing an older co-op based game single-player is like watching
a movie with principal actors missing. lol

That said, I'm looking forward to seven of the ten games you listed. Heh. Unity especially. Heehee. {XD

I didn't enjoy Gears or Halo. But they are two more solid examples. Lets hear some more. So far we have 4 over the course of a generation. The half ased co-op are bad for both those who love co-op and for single player games. I want fully co-op games
like Borderlands and Assassins Creed. Fun open world + good story + co-op = perfection.

Co op gaming, wheres it gone?

Left 4 Dead, Portal, Payday? GTA Online. RDR Free Roam before it got all hacked up. People like Saints Row's co-op, I'm sure people liked Dead Space 3's too, somebody must have. lol

There'll be those who liked Kayne & Lynch, Army of Two, even Resident Evil 5, 6, and Revelations. Hell people probably liked Operation Raccoon City or whatever. Heh.

ACIII had Wolf Pack Mode co-op. ACIV had co-op vs NPCs. Uhmm... RAGE's Wasteland co-op. I liked it well enough on PC.

I'm grasping here. lol There was a lotta crap, SP, MP, and co-op. Usually it was the one's trying to have all three that face-planted the hardest. Those 'design by committee' bids by publishers to hit every demo, but that managed to miss most if not all
    by producing first-rate tatt. Heh.

My only complaint is more couch co-op. Too many out there needing a whole 60 inches to play on. If you're looking to enjoy the scenery, go to SP.
