Cloud Gaming Beta on iOS and iPadOS - Thoughts/Issues

First post here. I wanted to give my two cents on a few days of playing xcloud on iOS. As a point of comparison, 90% of the time I play xbox I remote play through the xbox app. That has really evolved and works very well. I can even play multiplayer and pvp fairly well. I'm very pleased with that playing experience. Also, I'm using iOS and iPadOS 14.4.2 with all updated apps.

iPadOS:

- The biggest issue for me is controller input lag. It's basically unplayable on iPad. In FPS games the lag is so bad I can't aim at or hit a target, or even look around with any consistency. Compared to remote play, it's night a day difference. If this was fixed, I'd delete the remote play app and never look back.

- I can only get it to work on Safari (after figuring out that I need to log in with my most recent MS alias). When I try using Chrome and Edge browsers, it will load, but it says that I should use a "supported browser". From what I've read, those are both supported, but that "warning" has come up for them various times. Then once it loads, the controller doesn't work. It doesn't register any button presses in Chrome or Edge. Controller registers fine in Safari and Remote Playing.

iOS:

- Controller input lag is much better. Still noticeable though. When I'm playing an FPS and I move and turn my character it feels like they are under water. Just kind of slow. But it's more playable than the iPad.

- It took me a while to get it working in Safari. When I tied to log in it would say that I had to be invited to participate or something similar. I also noticed that it was taking me to a non-english MS/Xbox page. I am in the USA and I wasn't using a VPN or anything. However, I overcame this problem by logging into Chrome and then copying the link from there over to Safari. It let me in and I played.

- The other browser issues are exactly the same as the iPad. Both Chrome and Edge give a warning about not being supported. Then the controller doesn't register with them. Both apps are updated to current versions on both devices.



All in all, I'm hopeful and optimistic. If the input lag on the iPad could be reduced to equal remote play it would be fantastic. The game actually looks better from the cloud than from remote play. Load times seem pretty good. For me, who plays primarily on my iPad, this would be such a great thing. But right now, I'll just have to keep using remote play as it's just unplayable with that input lag.
