Closing microsoft account & old gamertag

Hello dear MS Support.

I am going to close my very old microsoft account. I dont use it.

I want to know, if I close it, will my old gamertag be deleted too?

if yes, i'll be very happy. Because I want to change my this new gamertag's name to old gamertag name.

Once an account is on the servers, there is no way to completely delete it.

 

Not true. After a Gamertag goes unused for an extended period of time, it will be taken off the servers and available for someone to choose.

(I had this happen to one of my first accounts I made, the gamertag is currently available since the account has not been touched in roughly 4 years)

 

Okay guys try to stay on topic....he doesn't care about your opinions or personal here-say. The link I sent you explains the process of moving your gamertag from one Microsoft account to another. It is possible. Sorry about the delayed response.

 

We are on topic. The OP wanted to know if the original gamertag would be deleted and it won't. That link will switch the Microsoft account, but even switching accounts it doesn't delete a gamertag from the servers.

This is what he wants: "I want to change my this new gamertag's name to old gamertag name." Meaning he has a new Microsoft Account that he wants to continue using his older gamertag with.

If both the current and target Microsoft accounts meet the conditions outlined above, you can move your Xbox profile and gamertag by following these steps:

1.) Sign in to your profile on your Xbox 360 console.

2.) Go to Settings and select Account.

3.) Scroll right to Your Information and select Account Security.

4.) Select Change Microsoft account, and then select Yes.

5.) Enter the password for the Microsoft account that's currently associated with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

6.) Enter the email address and the password for the new Microsoft account that you want to associate with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

7.) Select Yes, change to continue.

8.) Select Update Contact Information to update your contact information or Done to finish.
