Clear QAM

    Clear QAM


    I am a college student who lives in an apartment. My entire cable package is analog/Clear QAM however they do not provide us with a cable box meaning no guide or dvr. I would really like to know if there will be an update to support this in the near future
    because I would love to be able to integrate it to my Xbox One entertainment system for the benefit of my whole apartment.

    I am not too sure about that. One of the reviewers bought it and can't seem to get it to work. Here is what he said

    After searching the mediasonic forums, it appears that there was a beta firmware at one point that supported QAM signals (in addition to the antenna signals) but that they no longer allow access to it. I'm pretty disappointed and have emailed the company
    but have not received a response.

    There is a nearly identical device made my IView that DOES support QAM signals. Only drawback is that it outputs at 1080i rather than 1080p.

    ALSO: I found this response from Mediasonic...

    'hi,

    We locked the QAM support, because we don't know if there is any legal issues regarding recording QAM channels in USA

    QAM can be easily enabled with a firmware update.'

    Is there any USB TV Tuner (or any TV tuner really) that will play clear QAM on Xbox One? I downgraded my cable TV and they took my cable box back. I still get cable TV through my coaxial. Really want to watch my cable TV through my Xbox One without paying
    the cable company for a cable box. Thanks

    the iView STB and other set top boxes also have a QAM tuner, meaning it would use cable TV, not OTA.

    I was wondering the same thing, and there's nothing illegal about this. Some stations are broadcast in unencrypted Clear QAM format and you can pickup the signal without a cable box by directly connecting the cable to your TV. I also pick up my unencrypted
    stations using a Haupage USB adapter and Windows 10. I'd prefer Xbox One support though since OneGuide makes watching so much simpler.

    May I ask what setup you guys are using the HW180STB with? I just got the HW150PVR and have had no luck using it with my direct-from-wall Cox Communications coaxial cable. I had to upgrade the firmware to get it to work with QAM, but it got none of my normal
    channels.
