Clarification on backup payment method.

A hypothetical question;

I have $30 on my xbox account set and my primary payment for renewal of my $60+tax annual xbox live gold subscription and my credit card set as my backup payment method. When I am charged will the system:

(A) use the rest of my account balance ($30) and charge the rest to my credit card ($30+tax)?

(B) see that my account balance is not enough to cover the charge and bill everything ($60+tax) to my credit card?

Hey Hudson! Yes, it will take the balance first, if available, and charge your card for the rest.

Thanks for coming to the Xbox Forums. As long as you have the account balance set as the payment option. If there isn't any money on your account it will then charge the full amount from the card that is on file.

After you start the subscription, turn off auto-renewal and you won't be charged again. Otherwise, it will automatically charge you for the next payment.

If there is no backup payment method there will be no option for auto-renewal, Laurens.

For me, I am required to have a backup payment method even with redeeming a subscription code. There are no official announcements regarding changes, but a backup payment method is required for the auto-renewal to be turned on.

If you're looking forward to redeeming a code again, you can definitely do so, it will just stack up.
