Clarification Needed For Regional Conflicts, Restrictions etc.

OK - I have an Xbox Live account (UK) on my 360 (which I assume still works), I live in Brazil, and I'm hoping to buy an XBox One in the US next week. Essentially, what I want to know is
if any of that slightly messy arrangement is going to cause problems!?

I know games are region-free, and I know that Xbox Live basically uses your payment data to establish your location/region, but I would like to know if there are going to be any issues - particularly if there's a conflict between any of the three.

On the PS4, for example, I can buy games in Brazil - and they work fine - but the download codes for extra content and whatnot often don't work because of the conflict between my account region, and the retail region in
which the game was purchased.

On my 360, my account seems to work fine here (other than, rather annoyingly, constantly changing itself to Portuguese), but I've never actually tried to buy anything from the store whilst here, and I only ever played games bought in the UK (because they
were region locked).

• With the above arrangement, would there be a problem playing a game bought in the US, or Brazil with a UK based account?
• Would there be a problem downloading additional content in Brazil, for a game I'd purchased in the UK (or US)?
• Indeed, would I be prevented from downloading additional content etc, if my account's UK registered, but the game's bought in Brazil (or the US)?
• Would I still be able to download full games, Games with Gold, etc, from the UK store, even though I was based in Brazil?
• And finally, is it even possible to have a UK based account - particularly if I buy the Xbox One from the US, and then set it up in Brazil?
TLClarification Needed For Regional Conflicts, Restrictions etc. :DR?

Basically - How the hell does the region thing work - and what problems/issues/restrictions etc exist for a UK/US/Brazil tri-vector of confusion?

Cheers in advance,

James

:)

Disc based games will not have any problem, but downloaded games (and downloaded content) will. Anything bought on a UK based account must be bought from the UK marketplace, using UK payment options. Your physical location doesn't
matter. This can easily be done by changing your console location to UK in the system settings, and by using pre-paid UK Microsoft credit (which many places sell online).
Would there be a problem downloading additional content in Brazil, for a game I'd purchased in the UK (or US)?
There shouldn't be any problem there
Indeed, would I be prevented from downloading additional content etc, if my account's UK registered, but the game's bought in Brazil (or the US)?
It should be noted that anything downloaded on the Brazilian marketplace can only be bought on a Brazilian account. Same goes for stuff on the US marketplace. If you buy a disc game in Brazil, then add UK DLC, you won't have
a problem. If you download a game on your UK account (from the UK marketplace), then buy DLC using a second Brazilian account (from the Brazilian marketplace) it should theoretically work (I'm not 100% sure), but you will need both accounts signed in while
playing that game.
Would I still be able to download full games, Games with Gold, etc, from the UK store, even though I was based in Brazil?
If the location in the system settings of your console is set to UK, then yes.
And finally, is it even possible to have a UK based account - particularly if I
buy the Xbox One from the US, and then set it up in Brazil?
Yes.

A couple of options that may make things easier for you.

1) If possible, you could change your account region from UK to Brazil. Where the console is bought from doesn't matter.

2) If you can't change the region of the account,or you don't want to, you can make a second silver Brazilian account which you can use to buy stuff from your local marketplace. As long as it's a silver account, you won't be
able to get stuff like "Games with Gold", and "Deals with Gold" though. You will also need to be signed in on that account while playing that game on you main account.

4. Clarification Needed For Regional Conflicts, Restrictions etc.

Hello

This is indeed a tough issue

It's best to migrate your account to Brazil since you live there, judging from what you've said you'll be staying there a while (you can only migrate your account once every6 months)

Migrating it will allow you to access the Brazilian Marketplace (given you set your Xbox One region to Brazil) and purchase currency cards locally to use them (or if you have a creditcard linked to your Brazilian address that works too)

That way you're always sure digital additional content will work

If you don't migrate you'll still be able to play disc games just fine, just pre-order bonuses or extra content given with a game might fail to launch due to it being from a different region.

And you can purchase an Xbox One from anywhere in the world and it will work with your account, just be careful about the powercord and the voltage it required so you don't fry your device.

If you are situated in Brazil and want to get games with gold while your account is UK based you'll have to download it off the Uk version of the Xbox marketplace.

It all gets really complicated when you're not living in the country where your account originates from, therefor, for the time being I would suggest to migrate your account, unless you'll be returning to the UK in the next 6 months.

Thanks for your help.

And yeah, it is tough - and I'd really rather keep everything simple - but it looks like that isn't going to be an option.

It's further complicated by the fact that I want to be able to buy and play games from the UK AND Brazil. I've got a gaming blog, so some of the bigger games I'll need to buy and play quickly, but others I can wait for until I get back to the UK and just
pick them up a bit cheaper second-hand etc. I'd also prefer to keep it all linked to my English bank account too, and use the UK store/Games with Gold stuff.

If it's just the pre-order type stuff I'll (possibly) lose out on, it might be worth taking the risk, given the circumstances, I reckon.

Also, I'd basically figured the US/Brazil thing wouldn't be an issue, and I'm getting it in the US precisely so I don't have to run it through a transformer like with my PS4 and WiiU, but thanks for confirming that. I can get one here, it's just it'll be
bloody ages before the 1 TB model arrives, I suspect. ;0P

And thanks again for your help!

Yeah cheers, I just looked and it has arrived here already - which is a bonus. It still seems a bit cheaper/to have more bundle options in the US, so I'll have a look around while I'm there. If the Brazilian currency keeps going crazy though, it might end
up being cheaper here - which will be a first.

Thanks for your help!

Actually, ngocphi - are you from Brazil?

If so - how's the Brazilian store, for options, prices etc? Are the Games with Gold the same here as everywhere else? And, more importantly (for me) can I still do everything in English?
