Choosing Gamer tag when first purchasing an Xbox one

Hi,

Got my new xbox one today, stoked!!! but when setting it up i entered my email address which belongs to my previous xbox 360 account which i haven't played for about 4 years. As a result of this is xbox automatically gave me my old gamertag which is embarrassing
as i chose it when i was about 12 and i really want to change it hahahh. I went to change it straight away but it said i have to pay.

Surely there is a way to pick my gamertag the first time around without having to pay money? doesn't seem very fair, i know usually you have to pay to change your gamer tag however i didn't realise that using my email address would automatically a-sign me
my old gamer tag.

Can anyone help please???

Gamer tag change

The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created the account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since that tag is one of his own choosing, he will have to pay to change it.

If you were creating a brand new account, then yes, you would have the option the choose a new gamertag. You would need to create a new email address to use with the new account. Since your email address was already attached to a gamertag, you would have
to pay if you want to change the tag on that account.

As previously stated on my first post, When an Xbox live member chooses an Xbox gamer-tag, they have the full rights to keep that gamer-tag even know if they have been inactive for years along with no gamer-score & no gold membership, The owner of the gamer-tag
must change it himself or when a forced gamer tag change is imposed due to the gamer-tag violated the code of conduct in any sort of way, Other than that, Your out of luck. Sorry.

What do you mean? You can't transfer gamer tags to different Microsoft Accounts because your gamer tag IS your account.

If you mean getting your gamer tag on an Xbox One, you just sign in. It's simple, and easy, and one of the first things the Xbox One asks you to do when you turn it on for the first time.

When you choose the item you wanna purchase there’s an option to gift it. You put in his gamer tag or email address and your present will arrive

enter is already taken, you are prompted to try another gamer tag Also try to remember that gamer-tags are also tied to services like Zune or games for windows live. If a gt doesn't exist on Xbox or has already been taken, it might be in use on one of those
