Child's gamertag missing from parents Privacy & online safety settings

This is a long overdue followup to Vinster411's unanswered question (XBOX.com - Childs Gamertag missing from parents Privacy and Online Safety Settings) on answers.microsoft.com. The response Vinster411 got from Rhina Vib was essentially "go search, read,
ask Xbox forums" since the issue was deemed to be Xbox-specific. So I'm asking it here with the specifics of my problem, how I tried to solve it, and a request for guidance.

My son's gamertag does not appear in Privacy & online safety. I cannot grant him the ability to add friends as a result.

    1. I created an Xbox Live account for him and it gave him a gamertag.
    2. He was not allowed to add friends, because he has a child account.
    3. I read the Xbox.com documentation and it explained that I need to add him to my family on my Microsoft account and then change his settings under Privacy & online safety in my Xbox settings page.
    4. I added him to my family through my Microsoft account. He appears there as expected.
    5. When I go back to my Xbox.com Privacy & online safety settings page his gamertag does not appear.
    6. I've signed out and signed back in again and it still doesn't appear.
    7. I've removed him from the family in my Microsoft account and re-added him and his gamertag does not appear.

I tried the Xbox.com virtual chat agent and that pointed me to live chat support. I got into a live chat and it looked like it was going well. I provided the details the rep requested. Then I was unceremoniously booted from the chat after a couple of minutes
waiting for the rep update me. I assumed they were fixing the problem and would let me know when it was fixed. I was about to provide some additional details (not requested by the rep) just to keep the chat going and "boom" chat gone and not even a chat log
    to review.

This appears to be a family account bug. I am wasting a lot of my time trying to fix it and my son is mad at me, because he doesn't understand why we can't play Minecraft together. All in all this is not a winning day for my customer relationship with Microsoft.

    How do I resolve this?

    :)

  2. My Child's Security Settings

My child's gamertag shows up on my Microsoft family listing. Since we upgraded to an X-box One he is unable to add friends or make purchases - He gets a message that a parent needs to log on, select his gamertag in the settings, and make adjustments to
his settings. When I log in to my account online my child's gamertag shows up on my Microsoft family listing. But when I get to the Privacy & Online Safety screen, his gamertag isn't there for me to click on to make changes. Ideas???

Child's gamertag missing from parents Privacy & online safety settings

    tl; dr

Do NOT create Xbox live accounts for children from an iOS device. It will in sadness and wasted time.

Create the accounts for your kids from a desktop or Xbox instead.

    The Long Version

Had great help from Amber A. on Xbox live chat support today. Thank you, Amber.

It appears that Xbox accounts created for children from iOS don't get created properly. They don't prompt for terms and conditions and they don't prompt for a parent to authorize the account. As a result they are left in limbo and cannot add friends.

The child account created on iOS appears to be unfixable so you may need to get an alternative email for them or create a new live.com account. This is unfortunate, but appears to be unavoidable.

The solution to this is to create a new Microsoft account for your child from signup.live.com from a desktop computer or an Xbox. You will be prompted to accept terms and conditions and also be prompted for the parent account email to authorize use as an
    Xbox account for a child.

After these steps are completed the new child account's gamertag will appear under Privacy & online settings in the parent's Xbox settings page.

  5. Hey, TinnierRose3907!

This issue is something that we are currently investigating. It does look like you've done one current workaround, however it's not what we want customers to do. If you and your son are happy with the resolution, let me know. However, I can also pass your
information along to the teams to ensure that your accounts are properly synced.

    Let me know!

Yes, I would like my son's original account fixed. What information do you need to make that happen? I have removed my son's original account from my family. I can re-add it if need be.

I'm having the same problem. My kids set up xbox accounts on their iPads and want to play minecraft together. I've spent ages trying to allow them to connect as friends and go into the family settings under my account and click allow friends and click save,
but every time I log back in, it has not saved and still has the ability to add friends blocked. I would really appreciate advice how to give my kids permission to be friends. thanks

  10. Same issue, terrible experience trying to accept an invite for a Minecraft realm. Still not solved and "Xbox 360 Online Safety" "Accept Friend Requests" settings remains "blocked" despite clicking "allowed" and saving many many many times.

I have the same problem. I performed all the steps described by Dave but without success. How can I resolve this problem?

Child's gamertag missing from parent's Privacy & Online safety settings

Two hours on Chat with the xbox support team (props to Lily W. the Microsoft Answer tech)
    and it's fixed now

    .

    Bottom line ...

    1. Remove the Child's account from your Microsoft Family
    2. Remove yourself from (Leave) the Microsoft Family
    3. Create a new Microsoft Family & invite the Child account to it
    4. Once the child accepts the invite, make sure you
      Manage your child's Profile Info
and Give Consent for them to use their Microsoft account to login with services like XBox Live
    5. Visit https://account.xbox.com/Settings and you should now see the Child account's gamertag and you can manage the settings.

If the account was created on within iOS if may be stuck in that same limbo that was mentioned in the previous thread where they don't prompt for terms and conditions and they don't prompt for a parent to authorize
the account. You should try contacting official support to see if they are able to fix this issue on their end to avoid having to create a new account https://beta.support.xbox.com/contact-us
