Child XboxLive and Microsoft Account

My son has a non live Xbox360 account/gamertag that we'd like to make into and Xboxlive account, but getting a bit lost. He has a child Microsoft email address under the family section in my account, but can't seem to get this to work with his gamertag.
Can anyone give me a clue how to progress with this please?

Change the gamerpic of a child account

Hi,

I want to change the picture predefined for my child on xboxlive.

I am an adult and I monitor the content my son wants to use.

Since he has a child account, can I do it or do I have to create a new adult account for him ?

It's no longer possible to convert an offline child account to a Live account. You would have to create a new Live account for him via the website and then download it to the console.

Thanks for that, I did wonder after going round and round forums if this was going to be the case. He has a Microsoft email address as a child in my Microsoft account, but no password. I'm now a bit stuck on how to create an Xbox Live account for him (lots
of info on how to elevate to an adult account)

The parent didn't necessarily "lie about the child's age", if you set up another account in your name (with the intention of letting your child use it), it's not against the ToU. An underage person is allowed to use an adult's account provided that that
adult is a "guardian" of that child. XBOXLive still cautions the guardian about "the service is not intended for persons under the age of 13" and requests supervision while they are accessing your adult account, this was how I understood the ToU unless it's
been since changed...

I understand that but the Tag it's self is only useable on xboxlive the account and the xboxlive gamertag are 2 different names as such i can change my name to my my Microsoft account but on xbox live it remains Fur Dragon. The gamer tag is
solely used for xbox live and doesnt affect the Microsoft account in any way.

An Xbox account is the same as a Microsoft account. Your Microsoft account would include all the services such as Skype, Office, Outlook.com e-mail, Xbox, etc.
