Child trying to join Xbox Live with existing profile

I'm posting with the same subject of a previous post that was locked as answered, but I failed to see an answer in there about how to convert a child's account (already setup at xbox.com per the directions) from the local Xbox profile to an Xbox Live profile.
My son, like the other children mentioned in the previous thread, is looking to play online, keep things in sync and not lose his locally stored achievements and savegames.

If there is a way to convert a local Xbox profile to an online one, that is a child's account (not just the standard fare - that's well documented) please post in here to let me know how to do it.

The previous thread that failed to get anywhere (but as frustrated as I am) was here: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/xbox_360_support/f/12/t/1647750.aspx

Thanks for any help in getting this working.

    :)

    Hi,

I know that this is a little more than usual. but in order to get things rolling you would need to create a parent account to be stored on the console. This will house all of the parental settings for the child. Once you get it set up the child account
can be linked to you on the Xbox.com website. You will be prompted back and forth to log in as parent when the child is logging in but once everything hits the ground it will flow properly. Once it is linked you will have to agree to give permissions to the
child to play on online there is a 50 cents charge to a credit card. This charitable to the Missing Childrens foundation, and it verifies that you are an adult.

after that you are done Child trying to join Xbox Live with existing profile :)

Child trying to join Xbox Live with existing profile

I am currently having this issue while trying to help my 12 yr old grandson to be able to access X-Box live with a new card he just bought to use on his new home 360 system. He paid for the card with his own money and was excited to be able to use his system
    at home.

Previously I have had my 5 grandkids at my home...playing under my profile in the Kids room and I controlled their activities from there. Found out the hard way last night that he has to be 13 to have his own Live acct. Very frustrating. I'll try to add
him tonight to mine using the parental permissions and hopefully be done with it. He'll lose any accomplishments earned in the past but it seems that Microsoft leaves us little choice. I just left the Microsoft account site and although it says there are
ways to add a child to my account it does not show how or give that option that I can see. Yes.. I will contact their support to find out but YOU guys are the ones who have required the connection between these accounts as far as I can tell. If I can do this
from here, could someone explain how? I'll recheck the FAQS but somehow I missed something if it is there.

This procedure should NOT be as complicated as it has been made! I did attempt to read the COPPA requirements but the law is like trying to translate Chinese to Latin. I should have guessed that anything the Government (oxymoron) gets involved with would
turn into a nightmare! IS there a step-by-step procedure to be able to add my grandson to my Xbox account? That would be the best thing until he turns 13 in a few months.

    Thank You

It should be as simple as signing in to your child's account on your console while connected to Xbox live and there should be an option to prompt you to sign up with the account you're signed in with

Sorry but the local gamertag that was created will need to join live on the console. You'll need a separate email address for the gamertag. When you sign up for live on the console it will ask for an email address (sorry but the one you used to create
an account on xbox.com will not be able to be used as it has a gamertag attached to it already). Once done, the system will give you a new gamertag name but you should be able to change it once for free. After that you would need to pay $10 per gamertag
    change.

Okay, so if I convert the local gamertag to a live one, can it then be put under my account as a child's account? If so, how does one do that? I'm familiar with creating an account for a child, moving a separate account under mine as my child's account
    would be interesting too.

You would have to associate an email address with your child's date of birth, it would automatically become a child's account on your console, and as the adult account on your console, you can go to system settings and apply parental controls for child accounts.

Having this issue as well. Just trying to upgrade an offline child account to live and retain achievements.

Looking for the answer to the same question. This is incredibly frustrating. I don't mind the parental controls and the need to charge .50 to prove my child is not setting up the account by himself. What I do mind is not being able to link the new xbox
live child account to the current offline profile full of his achievements. I was so surprised to see that there is actually no way to do this. I thought maybe it was just technology outsmarting me again.

Not sure if this is the same problem or not?? I have a gold membership on a 360. I can sign into live and play online games. my son can sign into his profile and says he is online. when he then tries to join a online game it will not allow him. I have
no ratings, parental controls, etc turned on at this time. suggestions??

I had the same issue trying to setup convert my sons offline account to LIVE. Tried to "Join Xbox Live" from console, was told I needed to to live.com and create a Microsoft account. Went online, paid my $0.50 to verify. Went back to Xbox console and
tried to "Join Xbox Live" again. Entered my son's new child Microsoft account email address and password then entered my parental Microsoft account address/password and was received a notification that child Live profiles need to be created online at xbox.com.
As with you I went back to the computer and created the Live profile and it assigned his Gamertag. When I went back to the Xbox and tried to migrate the offline account to the Live account and was told that the Live account was already in use (or something
to the effect). So I had to create a NEW Xbox profile for my son. So now he has an offline profile with all his achievements and the new LIVE profile with nothing.

This makes no sense. There should be a way to connect the newly created Gamertag to his existing offline profile as you can with an adult profile.

I would like to convert my other son and daughter's offline accounts to LIVE but am not sure I want to go through the hassle and them have them lose all their achievements.
