You can program the Xbox 1 Dashboard to require a PIN/Password before it allows you to buy stuff. You can tell the bank/Visa/Credit Card that it was an "unauthorized transaction". Usually they'll just reverse the transaction. Countries have laws regarding
this too. My bank is ANZ and they usually pick up on unauthorized transactions. Every time I use my Visa cards, and check my balance, it says "Visa Hold" til at least the following business day or 2. Then it says "Visa Purchase". It pays to stay on top of
your spending too. And golly, even I know this at my age! With parent-hood comes responsibility. He/she should also ground their kids, no electronics not even a phone, for a month.

    :)

Parent wants to sue Microsoft over $4,500 Xbox bill

They're looking to sue MS for not having decent parental lock features.

Thanks, That's alot more straightforward than Sony's Parental Controls.

    @ Dr Black,

Personally I don't think Microsoft should give the money back. I'm not totally heartless and I feel for the parent in question as it's a lot of money, end of the day though however easy or hard it is for say a kid to use any service and have the ability
to spend this type of money then in my opinion it was the parents responsibility to find out how it works, what measures if any were in place before they allowed the child to use something that had the parents credit/debit cards linked to.

I blame the parent. Not because he lacks parenting skills but because he has a Credit Card attached to an online account. I absolutely refuse to attach a CC to Xbox, PS, iTunes or any other service.

I call BS here. I receive emails for every purchase from any one of my Xbox's. I would know IMMEDIATELY when something is purchased.

I blame the child (if he is competent) as well as the parent for not setting up his account security better.

But Microsoft and Xbox will undoubtedly take a hit here. Which is uncalled for in my opinion

in the parents post, they used his sons email address to setup his gamertag, so all of the billing emails went to his sons Hotmail account.

@ Zero, the parent checks his own bank statements right? I don't feel sorry for the parents lack of attention. I would know immediately if a purchase was made via email or online banking.

I have to put in a code to sign-in, a code to make a purchase, then I have to confirm said purchase, and finally they send a confirmation e-mail.

    No sympathy from me.

    Peace, J.R.

you're not wrong, i was just clarifying that the parent wasn't receiving the billing confirmation emails because they were going to his son's email.

i personal only have a low limit credit card on my Xbox account that is only used for my gaming hobby, i get email alerts if i go over a certain balance, and i don't use auto pay so i login every month to pay it and check the transactions to make sure nothing
fishy is going on. i removed my credit card from my PS account, not only does their methods feel a little convoluted, but then i start reading that if your account is compromised and try to get your bank or CC company to stop payment or refund the money, Sony
    will suspend your account.

  11. Parent should've set up a child account where purchases either weren't allowed or had to have permission from the parent 1st (with a password). This parent has no case because MS has methods (explained above just now) in place EXACTLY to prevent this kind
of thing and render them completely blameless. Otherwise, I have nothing else to say on the matter.

  12. Excuses excuses excuses... I can tell you this guy is a shmuck solely by his title. Had to make sure everyone knew he was the director of said bank.

These types of shmucks never are tentative parents typically only interested in them selves and their banks.

Over a course of more than a month and a major bank director doesnt realise the immense ammount of cash being drained from his account lies!

His child walks around with a silver spoon you know where, and can get away with thousand dollar crummy purchases. But when daaddy finally decided this was too much over some course of time he decides to take action.. lol.

Banking director/Parent buys child Fifa online digital version and doesnt think to remove the card from account..... farse.

He is the director of a major bank who sits in meetings and laughs whith his greed monger bosses and friends when this happpens too regular people. Now it is his turn to feel the wrath of careless stupidity for being a self absorbed idiot.

You cant tell me a bank director wouldnt think too exctract his card from the device after a purchase of a game for his son.

Quit giving sympathy to the unworthy this man does not deserve it.

I don't really have any sympathy for the guy and over the years I've read plenty of stories that mimic this one on multiple different services.

I really don't want to have to input a password every time I make a purchase either as others have stated, there is already plenty of safe guards against this already.

  14. Me either. And If I am 26,barely educated, with no parental responsibility and alot farther down the social ladder then this shmuck but yyet I can still think after a purchase to remove my card then there is no reason this guy cannot either, And should face
    the consequences.

He obviously has the money to burn if he does not notice thousands dwindling

  15. 4.5k isn't really a lot of money. Seems like the father just wants his 15 minutes to me. I wouldn't be surprised if his son is playing FIFA now.
