child accounts and adult gamertags

When I first set up my xbox only I had an email account. My child was very young. Now they've been playing with the xbox 360 and xbox one using my account and gamertag for years. Now I need to set up a child account for them and apply some parental controls.
Is there a way of transferring my adult gamertag , achievements etc to their child account or do they just have to start again with a new gamertag assigned to their new child account?

Any advice would be appreciated because I cant find anything online about it.

Moving gamertag to different account

It sounds like that account is set up as an adult account. Adult accounts cannot changed to a child account. Your only option is to create a new child account for your son. he will lose progress, as he will have to start his games again on his new
account.

My account which his gamertag is set up on is an adult account. Surely there must be a way of moving Gamertags between accounts?!? I've set up a child account for him but just need to move his gamertag.

Creating a new gamertag or losing the progress on his current one is really not an option.....

Xbox one gamer tag transfer to my child's account?

The original gamertag is linked to my Microsoft account... It's set up as an adult to his child account.

Hi there,

Unfortunately, you can't transfer achievements, save data, friend list, etc to another account, but if you own any digital games "games were purchased from Xbox store" you can share it on your console or any other console so other accounts can play games

It sounds as tho the account, son's (gamertag) setup on the XBox is an adult account using your email assigned to your Microsoft account.

What needs to happen is an adult xbox account (think gamertag) needs to be setup with your adult email used for Microsoft account and then use the family setup and make your childs gamertag on the XBox a child account not an adult account.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that you are interested in changing a child account to an adult account. Once an account has been established as a child account, it cannot be changed to an adult account until the child turns
18. The best way to manage the child account is to
add it to a family. This requires an adult account to add the child account to the family. Once the child account has been added to the adult account's family, the child account will be able to access online features. Be sure to let us know the results!

Only adult accounts can add friends etc.

Child accounts can not add friends, search for gamertags etc without the permission from an adult account.
