Child account pending on Microsoft Family

I'm trying to setup a Microsoft Family. I have created the family and invited my son (who has a Gmail account and is 8). They have accepted the invite and on their screen, I can see their activity. However, on my account (parent), the invitation is stuck
in pending.

When I then try and 'accept now' and join again, it says 'you are already part of a family group and must leave that'. The child account can't leave a family group, only be removed by the parent, but I can't do that as their invitation is stuck in pending.

I've tried cancelling the invitation and resending but I always get to this same point.

Can't request a callback as it can't connect at the moment.

Any help appreciated.

This is a bug from the searches I did. I think you have to contact support proper to have them remove the account on their end and then re-invite.

Thanks for your post! To have an adult account treated like a child account, simply add the adult account to a Microsoft Family as a child. The Microsoft family will then treat said account as a child. For more information on adding members to families check

Thanks for your post. An adult account can be added to a Microsoft Family as a child, and will be treated as such. Allowing the owner of the family to adjust permissions to the adult account that would be considered a child account after being added to the

I assume these accounts are child accounts and member of the family.

It has to do with some settings.

Why you're being asked for parental consent

If the date of birth on your Microsoft account shows that you're under 18 years old, Xbox is required to request parental consent for you to use Xbox Live.

If you're an adult, but you got a message asking for parental consent, it's because you're a child in your Microsoft family. Even if you're over the age of 18, you can still be a child in Microsoft family.

Solution

If you're under the age of 18, follow the steps on your console to have your parent sign in and add you to a Microsoft family.

If you're over the age of 18, have your parent remove you from the family. They'll have to sign in to
account.microsoft.com/family, select your profile, and select remove.

If you're unable to clear the message, contact Xbox Support.
