Child account cant purchase games with gold

I recently purchased a Xbox One for my son he is 12. I also got him Xbox live gold membership as well. I am trying to take advantage of the games with gold and purchase Guacamelee which is a free game and when I attempt to get it purchase it says "Purchase
of this content is currently not allowed for child and teen accounts." and that is both when i try using the console and doing it from a computer. My question is what do I need to do to allow him to make free purchases?

There is no adult account for my child account so I cant change my child account setting. I want to purchase something but cant since i cant find my adult account. When i press on family, it only comes up with my child account.

 

Games With Gold Issue

you need to make the purchase on the primary account not a sub account

Home gold doesn't apply to 360 games or child accounts for games with gold

 

Do you have your own Microsoft account?

If so, you can add him as child, and create a profile on the Xbox. That way, you should be promted to allow for him to play games rated not suitable for minors....

Really didn't answer my question. As of now he cant download any of the free games that come with being a gold member.

 

Hey there iNupe! I'm sorry that your encountering this issue.

Here's some tips.

When an xbox profile is created, if the user is under the age of 18 he/she needs to sign up with a parent account (a separate Microsoft account/gamertag that monitors the child account) there isn't a way for us to change the relationship with a child account
to a parent account, so uncagedmammal1's suggestion isn't possible.

If your child is apart of your family settings (right hand section in settings), make sure you double check your privacy and online safety settings by going to Settings>Privacy & Online Safety>Custom, look over the "Buy and Download" section to make sure
its either anything or free content. You won't be able to check those settings from the child account itself because its a child account and the parent account needs to confirm these settings. This may be simpler by signing into the parent account on Xbox.com
and checking the Privacy and online safety settings under "My Account"

If your having trouble trying to verify what the parent account is for your child's profile, you can call 1-800-469-9269 and speak with support. They can tell you what the parent account is, you'll just need to pass the security steps with support (not hard
at all).
