Check whether system is new, refurbished, or used

Azrael, I did contact support and gave them my serial number as they asked. My console was new.

And to answer some of the other comments, I only wanted to check if it was new as a precaution. I did not have any specific reason.

At the top of the page is a tab for Support.

Get some. It's free and the answer they give you will be correct (give them the serial number).

What makes you think it might not be new?

Having a sealed box is the first place to start, resealing a box is easy enough, but actually is unlikely for a retailer to be able to reseal for a lot of reasons, not saying it doesn't happen, but it doesn't happen
often.

Also amazon aren't the only people that sell on amazon, and the number of people that don't know this is unbelievable.

Used to work for a major retailer and this has the right of it IMO. Not to mention that resealing a box is sometimes easy enough... not always, but the big question is reseal for
what purpose? Most items listed as refurbed still come in their own packaging, usually identical to the packaging of the same item when new. A refurbed item will typically have a sticker, on OEM packaging, that indicates it's a refurbished item.

It's more likely for a "refurbished" sticker to be removed from the packaging, if a company were to try and pull a scam. But if memory serves, that sticker isn't coming off the
package without doing obvious damage.

IMO, it's more likely that a refurbed unit would be put into a "new item's" package, but then... what happened to the new item that was in there to begin with?

Not saying it hasn't happened or doesn't happen... just that the odds of it aren't as high as one might suspect they are, considering all the other things that would have to add
up to make it worthwhile to do it.

How did the console look when you opened it? Was everything neatly packaged? Was the plastic/foam piece that the console came wrapped in free of wrinkles? Hard to repackage to make it look perfect. Did the listing say new or refurbished? Items sold legitimately
as refurbished have to be in different packaging or stamped/sticker ed on the box; at least here in the U.S..
