Check whether system is new, refurbished, or used

Hello,

I recently bought an Xbox One from Amazon. While the item I ordered was listed as new, I would like to make sure this is the case. Is there some place I can enter the serial number and check the condition of the system?

I am planning on getting an Xbox 360 again. Does anyone know the best deals on 360 Slim consoles? I don't care if it's online or at store or whether it's new, used or refurbished.

Apparently where I'm located, refurbished means used internal components inside a brand new external case. The problem is I'm paying for new not refurbished.

 

You could register it to your account with the serial number at myservice.xbox.com.

 

At the top of the page is a tab for Support.

Get some. It's free and the answer they give you will be correct (give them the serial number).

What makes you think it might not be new?

Retailers must disclose if the item you are purchasing is refurbed. After all it will be at a lesser price tag than a new one.

Was the box sealed when you bought it? did it have a tab over the edges that separate, if it did it was new, if not is wasn't.

 

Sealed box doesn't mean anything he thinks the retailer lied for some reason if that's the case it's extremely easy to reseal the box

 

How did the console look when you opened it? Was everything neatly packaged? Was the plastic/foam piece that the console came wrapped in free of wrinkles? Hard to repackage to make it look perfect. Did the listing say new or refurbished? Items sold legitimately
as refurbished have to be in different packaging or stamped/sticker ed on the box; at least here in the U.S..

 

I don't think the guy's got it yet.

He's just worried what he might get.

But Amazon is too big an online retailer to be attempting blatant scams such as reselling 2nd hand XBoxes as new.

 

I just assumed when he asked about entering the serial number, he already had it.

Would have liked the O.P. to come back and give us the listing or update, though I think he's gone.

Having a sealed box is the first place to start, resealing a box is easy enough, but actually is unlikely for a retailer to be able to reseal for a lot of reasons, not saying it doesn't happen, but it doesn't happen often.

Also amazon aren't the only people that sell on amazon, and the number of people that don't know this is unbelievable.

Probably true, but the same cannot be said for most of the 3rd party sellers who use Amazon as a storefront. Not to mention, even companies like Amazon could make a mistake and send out the wrong box. Unlikely, but it does happen.

Used to work for a major retailer and this has the right of it IMO. Not to mention that resealing a box is sometimes easy enough... not always, but the big question is reseal for
what purpose? Most items listed as refurbed still come in their own packaging, usually identical to the packaging of the same item when new. A refurbed item will typically have a sticker, on OEM packaging, that indicates it's a refurbished item.

It's more likely for a "refurbished" sticker to be removed from the packaging, if a company were to try and pull a scam. But if memory serves, that sticker isn't coming off the
package without doing obvious damage.

IMO, it's more likely that a refurbed unit would be put into a "new item's" package, but then... what happened to the new item that was in there to begin with?

Not saying it hasn't happened or doesn't happen... just that the odds of it aren't as high as one might suspect they are, considering all the other things that would have to add
up to make it worthwhile to do it.

 

Yea, it's not unlikeley but I don't buy the "companies" doing it scenario. An employee who sees a way to scam? Yep.
