Check if new gamertag is offensive

recently my friend had a gamertag change due to the enforcement team, and it's currently in the process of the case review.

He's testing the process to change the assigned gamertag
[Mod Removed - Personal Information] , and is concerned any new gamertag he might select might be subject to the same violation.

Is there a mechanism to check if a proposed new gamertag will be safe for the Xbox enforcement team?

It's currently available in the Change Gamertag form, but the CoC does state the following though:

Xbox blocks offensive Gamertags. If I was able to create the Gamertag it shouldn’t be considered offensive, right?
While some offensive terms (for instance, unambiguous profanity and racial slurs) are blocked and cannot be used in a Gamertag or profile, inappropriate Gamertags
and profiles that use available terms may still be subject to enforcement action.

The Code of Conduct establishes that certain types of content, such as profanity, hate speech, references to illegal activities, and other controversial or sensitive
topics are not permitted. Content that is designed to look similar to or otherwise suggest such topics is also inappropriate.

The vast majority of Gamertags are perfectly acceptable. However, successfully creating a particular Gamertag doesn’t automatically mean that it’s appropriate. If
you encounter an offensive Gamertag or profile, please file a complaint.

He doesn't want to be caught out again and have to spend another $14 to alter the gamertag.

Why would someone harrass you over your gamertag?

Forced gamertag change will only happen if your gamertag is offensive. Your gamertag is not offensive so..

If you create an offensive or inappropriate Gamertag, it will be replaced with a new automatically-generated Gamertag. To get a new gtag you should pay the fee

 

Reading through the Code of Conduct and making sure your tag doesn't violated any of those rules would be the only way to know if it is allowed. There is a filter that picks up things like profanity, but because of things like context or using variations
on spelling, the filter doesn't pick up everything. So just because the system allows you to create a certain gamertag, doesn't mean it's allowed. A good rule of thumb is, if you have to ask if it violates the coc, then you shouldn't use it.

He thought his original gamertag would never be a problem, and in no way was a violation, but he was still forced to change his name.

Is it fair to say there is no way to accurately know if a gamertag would be considered safe to use or not?

It would be subject to the arbitrarily assigned enforcement officer who is assigned the case, and his opinion?

Is there no way to get the enforcement team to validate beforehand?

I didn't think it would be such an issue if it doesn't cost money each time to change it. $14 per change is still a fair amount of money.

 

No. There is no way to have the enforcement team validate a tag before. You just have to be smart about it.
