I bought an LG player for under $100 last Xmas season that has Netflix, Vudu, and several other apps built
in. It's not competing with perfection, it's competing with streaming and other services.

Your "value" proposition doesn't take into
account time. I can buy a new game, boot a 360, and play it in less than 5 minutes. I can install it and play in 10-15min. The last time I tried to set up a game I bought on a PS3 (Infamous 2), it took over an hour and that was without an install.

Netflix and Love Film are better on the PS3 since the video output is reference level (unlike on the 360, which is totally broken).

broken gamma curve doesn't bother me and I prefer the interface on the 360 over the PS3, the Roku, and the 7MC plug-in. Maybe the PS3 version has advanced to the state of the Web version which is pretty close to the 360 version in terms of functionality, but
I'd have to boot the PS3 and update Netflix to find out...

Actually, a 60GB PS3 burns over 100w at idle. The one that's hooked up is a 60GB model because I play PS2 games.

Not to me. Time is money. To download and install all the games that
are provided "for free" takes a considerable amount of time, far more than buy and download from Live. Those hours are expensive.

Nothing on Live is temporary with respect to your Gold status other than
multiplayer.

1. Not really. I don't have a 8Mbps connection so I can't watch in HD. So its not just videophile thing. Besides you have a 37" LCD, its obvious ones you go above 46 to 50. Even at 8Mbis, you're only seeing 1/4 of BD quality (not to mention the sound quality).
Again, this isn't to do with PS3 vs 360. Because the PS3 offers both options. It's why I went with Love Film. Film that doesn't need the HD treatment, I can watch online. Film that do I can rent.

4. Why would anyone buy £100-150 stand alone BD player when they can get a PS3 for £190, which offers so much more? I seriously doubt power saving is one of them

5 and 6: I lose gold and I lose multiplayer. The very reason why I bought the Xbox and spend more time on the Xbox.

7: Age age old argument of "evenone I know", which makes up a very small minority . The truth is much deeper than that. I play mostly on the Xbox (inc multiplatform). I haven't payed a game on the PS3 in over a year. The one reason I prefer 360 over PS3
for gaming is HALO. I am a massive HALO fan and that what I play the most. But if it wasn't 't for HALO and the PS3 was on par with 360 in terms of price, I would have opted for the PS3.

Anyway, my point is at this time, which offers more value for money and the PS3 wins. Few months ago when it was £250, Xbox had the upper hand. But not any more hence the reason why PS3 is selling more here in Europe

To me, saying I no longer play older games would be the same as saying I no longer listen to music older than a couple of years old or I won't watch a movie that came out prior to 2005. People today are too caught up in what's new & what's old rather than
what's good & what's bad. I sold one console, which I now deeply regret. Other than that, I have hundreds of vintage games (along with their respective consoles) that a lot of people would kill to own. I simply couldn't stand living in bubble that comprised
only a few year span.
