chatting with strangers

Can a child user chat with strangers on Xbox One if a parent hasn't allowed her to connect with them as friends through the console? If so, how? I want to keep my daughter from chatting for her safety.

Hi Broncos CHAMPS,

First you don't know if the Broncos are champs for another couple weeks ... To answer you question though, It depends on your child settings. If you have voice chat enabled on Xbox Live for everyone then they can hear everyone. See these two links
for more info and the default settings for your child safety.

If the childs profile is set to a child, they can be limited to chatting with friends only. My friend knows a bit more than I do, since she has set her sons profile up so he can't chat with anyone except particular people.

As a teacher, my advise to you is monitor your daughters activities and play with the settings to see if it is possible to only allow her to chat with particular people. I don't know if it is possible, but there should be a way to limit chats to only family
and child profiles. For myself, I rarely use chats unless I personally know the person I'm talking to, and if it is a child, I MUST get written permission from the legal parent before I allow it. I don't think it is appropriate for adults to chat online unless
the parent is directly involved in the process. If I do see stuff that is not right, I am legally obligated by both state and federal law to notify the authorities due to my profession.
