Chat won't go through headset

Starting yesterday my chat goes through the kinect only. I have the chat adapter and use a turtle beach P4c (this setup had worked fine since the adapter came out). I can hear game audio in the headset (don't use game audio through headset but turned on
to trouble shoot). I have done a hard reset of XB1, fully charged controller, removed battery from controller for an extended period, and tried the headset that came with it, but can't get chat through a headset to work. I do not have a second controller to
trouble shoot that.

Anything else I can try? My XB1 time has been very frustrating so far.

Turtle Beach Headsets delayed until early 2014

@Judge. You can still use your headsets for the audio. You just won't be able to chat through them.

You want Voice Output in Console Preferences, to play through the headsets too.. Otherwise, you won't hear the voice chat with headset on etc..

Update: I forgot to say that I have firmware installed.

I only chat in party so I joined a match of titanfall and my headset worked, I was then invited to a party and my headset continued to work. Don't know why. This really seems like a software issue.

Press and hold the chat button on the adapter, this is the audio balance for the chat and game and if the game button is on full the chat will mute. The volume on the right side of the adapter is the overall volume. This may be your issue, it may not.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, this does not appear to resolve my issue. I have no idea what I did to get it to work last night but I cannot get it to work today. With all the other issues that seem to be related to the recent updates I can only hope
they will release another one to fix these issues.

Just got a new controller that doesn't have the updated firmware. In theory I should be able to plug in the bundled chat headset and be good to go. Nope. Absolutely no chat through the headset for in game or party. Only way to chat is to use my kinect which
is unacceptable for starters but also horribly ineffective since the kinect is in a closet due to the cord being too short. While trouble shooting this with a buddy his suddenly refused to read any of his discs. I hope Microsoft doesn't plan on consumers putting
up with failure rates anywhere near what the 360 had.

If anyone has any further ideas beyond all the basic troubleshooting tips, I would love to hear your suggestions.

If you're using the new adapter your headset MUST be CTIA and not OMTP (iPhone compatible)

If it works on an iPhone (chat) then it will not work on Xbox One via the stereo adapter.

Sound will always work

While I appreciate you taking time to respond, you clearly didn't read much of what I said. I am unable to get ANY headset to work to include the one that came with the XB1. I'm going to factory reset today and if that doesn't work I will start the process
of getting an exchange through Microsoft. After reading some of the horror stories on how well that's going, I'm not to excited. I went through 4 360's, all replaced through Best Buy. I didn't get protection on my XB1 because I couldn't imagine Microsoft making
the same mistake twice. Lesson learned and fingers crossed.

I read on IGN current wireless headsets will work on Xbox one for audio. If you want to chat through your headset then you need to purchase an additional adapter. Personally, I'm going to listen through the headset and chat through the kinect( unless chatting
through k2 is gonna be as crappy as chatting through k1) I couldn't find a link, sry

In settings, Xbox has an option to make party chat output go through your headset, headset and TV, or TV.

but that's only for party chat. i've always wondered why xbox can't do the same for in-game chat too?

With in game chat, if your headset is plugged in; game chat automatically goes to the headset, with no option to have it output through TV.

really sucks when you can't wear headsets, you can't play socially outside of parties. (in party chat; i use my headset mic, but have their voice output through my TV. game chat has no option to do this, you must wear your headset to hear teammates)

It's a total mess! I can't stand hearing chat through my speakers. Even if I don't plan on talking in game, I always hook my headset in because I don't want the chat to disrupt the sound in game. It sucks that the X1 isn't shipping with a headset, at the
moment, but I'll still be buying one because I won't have chat coming through my speakers.
