Chat will not work, One S stuck on MUTE!!!

• Turtle beach Stereo headset, was working fine.
• There is a mic icon with a line through it on the screen.
• Console is stuck on mute and none of the controls in settings un-mutes it.
• Cortana previously worked before we owned any headset of any kind through the Console mic.
• I have reset the console.
• I have updated the controller with a wired connection to the console even though it said it was already updated.
• I re-updated the console offline with a USB Drive correctly formatted.
• I have tried party chat which says it doesn't see a mic.
• In Fortnite I've tried turning chat off then back on.

Does the xbox normally show as muted when a mic is not seen? In other words, if this is a controller issue?

I would assume not because Cortana doesn't see the console mic any longer.

Because Cortana stopped working through the console without a headset plugged in, I feel this is a software issue with the console itself.

Before updating offline, I did notice a text line on the update page that briefly said that "Update Failed" then it went away.

Any help would be appreciated.

Xbox one stereo headset adapter

My Xbox one stereo headset adapter is stuck on mute and I have to update my controller with the adapter but it's still stuck on mute, any suggestions?

Regarding the ability to mute people while in party chat, the options for that, IMO, seem to be stuck somewhere in the middle. On the Xbox 360, you have the ability to mute someone and it works both ways. However, on the Xbox One, you have the ability to
mute yourself so you can still hear everyone else or you can mute everyone else so you can't hear them. On the Xbox One in both cases, unfortunately it is only one way. Although both options are useful for their own reasons, there is still no option to mute
a particular individual through the party chat menu itself - to do so, you have to bring up their profile and select mute in chat. IMO, they need to either A) make it simpler and only allow us to mute individuals just like on the 360 (e.g. it mutes both ways)
or B) add the additional option of being able to do the same in the party menu itself.

So, I would prefer having:

Opt. A) Mute (insert GT here) ONLY.

OR

Opt. B) Mute (insert GT here) AND Mute Me AND Mute Party.

Option A just keeps things simple while Option B gives you more options of how you can handle a particular situation.

To simplify things on this particular topic, of these 2 choices (A and B), which would you prefer and why?

 

Now, the issue you're seeing is that your console or controller is not recognizing that the controller is plugged in.

First thing to double check is that your controller firmware is up to date. The steps to do that can be found here: Update Xbox One Controller

Now, the next thing I'd check is that your headset itself has the latest firmware available. Those can vary depending on the model of your headset, but this page should be a good start in getting what you need: Turtle Beach

I had a similar issue with my Astro headset and updating the firmware did resolve that issue. Let us know if those steps do not resolve your issue, and we can come up with some further troubleshooting steps.

What do you think is causing Cortana to not pic up voive commands now? Headset removed from picture. Also when I open Cortana and click "push to talk" she responds "Rats, I don't detect a mic" (something like that). Before, one would just say "Cortana"
and she would respond. Again, without any headset being involved.

 

Well I did this.

Bought a new controller.

Re-downloaded the offline update file and re-loaded it on the console.

One of the two fixed it.

I an going to re-try the old controller in a bit to see if it works now.

My suspicion is it was the update.

Try turning the controller off and back on to see if it recognizes the headset. The mute icon will disappear and a headset icon will take its place if it is recognized.
