Chat problems controller devices setting not working?

all of a sudden my son is having troubles with his headset...3.5 plug works fine on ps4...but with xbox one quit all but all of a sudden...he did something or it updated,

under devices accessories when I look at my controller config it has a volume selection but it will not highlight or give me access to control...under party it says cant find mic, which is on everywhere I know to look...it tells me to go to device setting
but again I can do nothing there but mess with button controls or look at config and under config it is assigned to him but volume selection is not accessible.

maybe it is xbox live but I have a feeling something is not right somewhere in settings and I cant figure it out...help please

No sound chat headset

Updated controller? In Settings > Devices > Controller there's an update for chat issues.

you get both

the controller 3.5 jack works as if you have the chat adapter but the controlls for those are in the controller settings.

Settings->Devices&Accessories->XBOX WIreless Controller

Left Bottom last two rows will only show up with the new controllers there you can set the volume for game/chat and set the mixer on how much chat or game volume you want.

Factory Restore on your Xbox One console and selecting 'Reset and keep my games & apps'. This is a fairly painless troubleshooting step to try in these specific scenarios.

I happen to have a guy last night I chatted to he had the same problem you had and this worked for him please try this to see if it works for you.

Press the Guide button in the middle of your controller,Then go to Settings, and select System Settings.
Select Storage or Memory device.
Select storage device That the game is saved on, and then press Y on your controller.

(It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)

Select Clear System Cache.
When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes

Hi MagicMan J93,

You may need to assign the controller to your profile in settings, kinect & devices, Devices & accessories. Then select your controller and make sure it is assigned to your gamertag. Then try to see if you can hear them in party chat.

My friend on Xbox had a similar problem and this is what he did in order to fix it. Hope this works for you! Let us know.
