    Chat headset transformed into malfunctioning Stereo Headset!!!!


    Hi,

    It seems that my controller (chat headset) was updated with stereo headset firmware and I am only using a chat headset...

    This has resulted in game audio coming through my chat headset and I am unable to chat unless I hold the mute button down!

    XBox one online support chat is also offline - Using my PC now.

    And congratulation on the new Xbox Chat headset transformed into malfunctioning Stereo Headset!!!! :) . If memory serves me correct, Xbox Ones are shipped with a small mono

    Chat Headset     that has an adapter attached to it and can only work with and be plugged into an Xbox One controller. However, the newer Xbox One

    Wireless Controllers     also have a 3.5mm jack and any compatible stereo headset with a microphone should work fine. We have two of the

    Xbox One Stereo Headset     and both work very well. In deed, they are probably the best stereo gaming headset you can get for the money (about $60US). Also, it comes with its own

    Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter     . Unlike the Chat Headset, the Xbox One
    Stereo Headset     has a 3.5mm jack and can be plugged directly into the controller. I've even used my Xbox stereo headset with my phone. However, the Xbox One

    Stereo Headset Adapter     has buttons for game/chat balance, volume and the all important mute. So, I recommend using the stereo headset with its adapter. If you do that, there really isn't any setup. Just plug it in and start playing. But, if you do plug
    a headset directly into the controller via 3.5mm jack, the Xbox will automatically makes Headset volume, Headset chat volume and Mic monitoring settings available right at the > Settings menu directly off the Home page/menu (kind of cool isn't it). Make sure
    the Headset mic is set to On.

    Hi zulubravo82,

    What headset do you have? One of the Xbox Ambassadors asked if you had either a stereo headset or a chat headset?

    In order to have the stereo sound the TV would output, you need a stereo headset that has two earpieces. A chat headset is only for chat and does not output the stereo audio, these usually just have one earpiece.

    If you indeed have a stereo headset that plugs directly into the 3.5mm audio port on the controller, then your headset chat mixer may be set to 100% chat audio only. Open the Xbox menu and scroll to the far right under the System tab. Under Settings you
    should see an Audio option. Select it and the middle slider is the headset chat mixer which should be in the middle for 50/50 game and chat audio.

    How to get sound through headset?

    Hello Cast,

    As there is no sound coming through it is important to determine if the headset is a chat headset or stereo headset.

    Chat headsets are made to exclusively chat in our party chat feature or with in-game chat features.

    Stereo headsets are made for functionality involving game sound and chat features.

    Provided here are links for each headset type, and if after attempting these with no avail it is recommended to return the product/trade for another headset as the current may be defective.

    Try this and let us know if this works.
