Chat agent refuses to fix GamerTag error by child

Hello Please help

My child has a GamerTag which I set up for him several years ago. He accidentally changed it to something random like Hi#12345.

To change this Microsoft wants GBP 8.

He asked a (real live) chat agent to change it back and they refused and say I have to pay for a new one. He explained we dont want a new one, this was a simple error by a child.

Please can you advise, or is this real - a child can press one button by accident and now I have to pay to buy a new name?

It would have taken a bit more than just one button to accidentally change the gamer tag. It takes about 5 steps to change a gamertag and there are several confirmation screens along the way that he would have had to have been agreed to as well in order to change the gamertag.

That being said the agent was correct. If you want to change the gamertag back to what it was before than there would be a charge to do so. Now its not so much that the chat agent refused to "fix" it but rather chat or phone support agents dont really have any authority when it comes to stuff like that so its more that they couldn't rather then they wouldn't.

Hello, I have this same problem (no xbox console, and child who wants to play Minecraft with his cousin). Parent gamertag is and child gamertag is WedgedJuggler68. Please help resolve the issue.

Is there anything I can do to help raise the priority of getting this fixed? It seems like MS might want to avoid such a large roadblock to Xbox-mobile platform adoption. I'm not happy about posting a child's gamertag information in an open forum like this,
but do not see an alternative, as the chat support could not provide any help on the issue .

In the UK, it is law that if you ask for company address details, you must be given them. Tell the Live Chat agent that you demand to be put in contact with a supervisor or manager. Then tell that supervisor/manager that they are obligated to provide you
with the contact details of the company for written contact by standard mail, and you want details of their official complaints procedure. No company can refuse to provide that information.

I also suggest you take full name details of any agent/supervisor/manager that refuses to provide it. Log the times and dates of any chat sessions, as the agents can be verified against their own system logs. In the UK we have Trading Standards to enforce
compliance, other countries will have their own equivalent.

Open up a live chat with an agent they should be able to fix this issue for you.

Via web, i search the mom gamertag, i press 'Add friend' and... Same error above!

I'm at work now...

i try to send request from my wife account... with the phone i ask to check at home directly on xbox: the dashboard popup will advise my son 'XXXXX request your friendship' but quickly disappear and the Frind list show only my (parent account owner) gamertag...
