Charging issues with controller after Feb controller update.

As stated in the subject my controller, since the Feb update, has not been able to charge while plugged into the Xbox while it was in power save mode... It will charge, or appears to be charging, while it is on, although it makes horrid noises for anyone
in a party with me... Before this Feb. update I could just plug it into the console and power down for the night and it would charge, or use a USB ac wall adapter to charge through the night, which also no longer works...

So after the update the only way to recharge the Microsoft rechargeable battery it while the console is on and no other way?

PS, the charge indicator light that is on the charge cable no longer works, also after the update... Was kind of nice to have a visual indicator to let me know when it was charged, other then going to the dashboard to devices hub.

The Problem with Updating the Xbox one Controller

There is a problem with the wiring in the LED cable that will not allow the handheld controller to update. I was able to update the controller with the non LED cable. All other aspects of the LED cable worked ok. The LED cable lites to white when
changing or charged to orange when charging is needed. Also, the cable seemed to have issues charging the controller.

 

Unable to update controller

Im not a preview member but i also am unable to update any of my 3 controllers today after the feb update. In the past i have been able to do the controller updates without issue but not today

2 different usb cables

With our without batteries

With our without a head set plugged in

With 2 different firmwares installed on my 3 controllers 1.1.2182.0 / 1.1.2228.0

I have always had controller random disconnect issues and thought this update would help ...

 

Hi there...if you're using the play n charge kit, what happens over time is that the cable becomes less and less reliable (it starts to break).

Try this..lay the controller down.

While its laying down, plug the usb cable in.

Slowly move the cable around until the Orange light stays on.

Keep the controller and cable in this position until the light turns white.

Resolution:

Buy another cable as the two I had stopped working from careful and very delicate handling and use. After 30-45 days it became less and less reliable.

If under warranty, return or exchange the cable

 

The cable works flawlessly with my original controller that has NOT been updated but won't work with the updated new controller... So that being said I believe the cable is fine..

 

I am experiencing a problem which may be related. While I am not having any issues with it charging, I do sometimes use my controller wired. I remove the battery and connect it via the play and charge lead as my son, who is quite young, finds the controller
a bit heavy with it in.

For some reason, since the update, I am having a hard time getting the controller to work while wired. It lights up and the LED is solid indicating a connection. However, it will not operate the console. The only way I have found to get it working again
is to unplug the cable, reconnect the battery and connect the controller via wireless. I have tried several leads, all to no avail.

*I'm in the preview program so my current build is not the same as public but I'm 100% sure that its the xbox charge and play kit cable.

I have 2 xbox brand charge and play kit cables. When i plug them in, in my current build, my controller stops working entirely but the orange light is charging.

I have three 15 foot mini USB cables from Ebay and when i plug those in, I have no issues at all.

Try another cable and comment back please.

 

If it helps, I was able to recreate this problem by using the xbox one brand play n charge kit.

WHen I use the non-xbox brand mini usb cable I do not have this issue.

Try a hard reset first and then test this using any other usb cable and comment back

I have used both the Xbox Branded play and charge kit and two different off brand kits one is the Nyko an the other is a plug and play charge cable by Energizer both do the same as the Official Xbox Charge and Play kit... My controller also does not work
with my buddies cables or kits. Still works fine with my other non-updated controller, and they all work with my friends controller that is also not updated... I finally just bought the Energizer Charger stand... It works so that is fine with me... Still pretty
sure something about the controller update jacked my controller... Not saying it was the update, just think the process got *** somehow.

 

A new system update hit...I'd try to re-update the controller. Some are reporting that this console update resolved the problem.

I only mention re-updating as this may catch anything that was present in the last update

 

It won't give me the option to update it again...
