Changing the Email Address for XBOX without Losing Purchases

I mistakenly setup my son's Xbox using my hotmail account several years ago. Now my understanding is that if I change this email account, he will lose his purchases.

I read a support article that says I can change the email address if I create an alias email account. However, that alias email account would have full access to my personal email, which is the whole reason why I would like to change the email associated
with his xbox and xbox live account.

Any workarounds for this situation would be appreciated. Every once in a while my email password is needed for my son to sign in to his Xbox at his mom's house and I don't feel comfortable giving out the password for my personal email. Thanks

Your Xbox profile is linked to your Microsoft Account, not to any specific email address. You can change the email address for your Microsoft account without losing your Xbox profile or purchases.

There is a easier way to go about this you should be able to change your email in the account section and if it does infact say you will loose your downloadable content/games then I would suggest contacting the customer service team and having an agent do
it online.

You can change the primary email address of your account without losing any of your xbox progress.

Xbox profiles (where you purchased games, DLC's or subscriptions) are linked to a Microsoft account, not the email address. It doesn't matter what email alias this account has, your purchases will always be linked to this account. So, you are free to change your email alias without losing them.

Hi there!

Unfortunately, you cannot separate his Xbox account from your Microsoft account (hotmail address). Please note that Microsoft and Xbox account are just one single account. I am afraid it's gonna be tied forever in your Microsoft account and your son has to use the same credentials as yours.

Removing your hotmail address from that account means deleting it completely and it cannot be recreated. So if your hotmail address is very important to you, I don't recommend you removing it from your aliases. You may instead add a new alias or email address and let you son use it as his login credential but still he has to use the same password as yours.
