Changing Parent Account "Xbox Live signup is currently unavailable. Please try again ...

NOTE: My account was part of a Xbox Live Gold family plan before the weird migration to individual accounts. Also, despite purchasing my own individual Gold membership, I was still in the "family" before I removed myself and unlinked the parent.

Recently, I accidentally unlinked my child account from its parent account. When I try to sign in to Xbox Live, I am prompted with "Your parent's Microsoft account isn't valid," and that I must either change the parent account or play offline. So, I begin
the process of assigning a new parent account, and everything runs smoothly; I input the adult accounts details, verify the information, confirm the change, and accept the Terms of Use. Then, a pop-up displays "Xbox Live signup is currently unavailable. Please
try again later." So I try again, and again, and again. Every time I am interrupted by that message on the final step. So, after days of researching and troubleshooting, I have tried all suggestions I could find.

These include...

Clearing the cache on all storage devices (multiple times),

Using wired and wireless connection on two different networks,

Rebooting the console (lots and lots of times),

Trying a different console

Deleting and re-downloading both the child and parent accounts (multiple times),

Trying to assign a different adult account as the parent (same error),

Deleting and re-downloading all updates for Xbox Live,

And making sure no Xbox Live services were down.

(There's probably a few more I forgot to list.)

Yet, despite my attempts for a fix, I am still greeted by a "Xbox Live signup is currently unavailable, please try again later." Through Google, I have found many more cases of this problem without any clear solution to fix it.

Does anyone have more suggestions or know if there will be a fix? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tried to create new account for "parent" and still getting same error when I enter info: "Xbox Live Signup is currently unavailable. Please try again later." Ran through most troubleshooting steps on the phone with two different xbox support specialists,
still nothing.

 

I forgot to add that all other accounts on the console are able to connect to Xbox Live without any problems.

 

I posted here with the same problem last week. All I got was the "Is the unit plugged in?" type of reply. I had three other people reply with the same problem, so it is certainly not an isolated issue. Typical Microsoft support - First ignore the problem
(which seems to be where we are at), then deny the problem (the problem is with our machines or internet service), when all else fails they say that they are working on it (with no estimated time to fix it). I'm in the market for a PS3.

 

OH, crud! I was just coming here hoping to find a resolution for this exact problem! Well, at least I know I'm not going to find one and I didn't have to look too hard. How frustrating!

 

I definitely agree that this isn't just happening to a few accounts; I've found forum posts dating back to 2011 with almost the exact same issue. I hope that enough attention has been brought to it to encourage a solution, but for now I think I will call
the support line as a last resort. I think I remember reading that someone was able to fix their account after a long call, so it can't hurt to try.

So I chatted with a member of Xbox Support and she said it could be from the recent maintenance on Xbox Live. Maybe after the maintenance is over the issue will be fixed?

 

Ive had this problem for months now. I wasted over an hour in live chat support with no resolution other than create a new account and transfer the gamertag. That wouldn't work because the new account couldnt sign up because xbox live sign up is currently
unavailable.

I tried different xbox and different ISP but no luck.

Is this just an Ireland thing????

 

Yeah, I'm also having this problem. Surely they could just force add a parent account that we give the information to, and it would be solved

 

We've been having this problem since May. Spent couple hours with MS support back then and they couldn't resolve it. Pretty sad to see it the issue still occurs. ie its as if they could care less.
