Changing parent account, then deleting old parent account.

A distant family member set up my sons new XBOX X last Christmas when i was working. He is pretty savvy with regard to Microsoft/XBOX/computer stuff, I’m not. The problem is that he set it up using his Microsoft account, not mine; so he has the parental
account that has to approve Everything that my 8 yr old wants to play or buy, etc, including Fortnite and NHL 2019. We have tried to resolve it over the phone with him by trying to switch the account to my Microsoft account but i only get some emails regarding
usage, but not the ability to approve purchases and parent required approvals...

im contemplating a complete reset of Xbox console, but then my son will lose all of his accomplishments ( right?). Can i just delete the relative’s parental-control gamertag account, then set up my account as the parental account?

The other parent would have to remove him from his "Family" Then you would have to add him to yours.

The relative released my son from his xbox family and i was able to add him and he got to save all his progress.

The child account will be orphaned, hence, no parent account will be able to make changes on their privacy and online safety settings.

I accidentally deleted the parent account, not knowing that it WAS the parental account and I have no idea on how to get it back or change the settings for my child account
