Changing Microsoft Live/Xbox Live email address

My son has been playing Xbox One using a Microsoft Live Account/Xbox Live Account that is associated with my email address. I have created a new Gmail account for him that I want to swap in to replace mine. How can I go about this without loosing any of
the progress he has made on his games?

I understand you can change the email address of an account by adding an alias (ie. a second email address), making the new alias the primary email address, and the deleting the original email address.

However, are there any steps that need to be done on the Xbox One console? When I originally logged into the Console, it was with the email address that, if I follow the steps above, is going to be deleted. Will the Xbox One start complaining about this
missing email address or is the GamerTag now the “primary key” in keeping everything sync'd?

My son said if I loose his progress I owe home $300. :^)

How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

Overview

It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on Xbox.com

1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on your console.

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

changing email address associated with xbox live profile

Im having problems changing my email address associated with my xbox live profile.

i spoke to someone last week about deleting and changing aliases on the microsoft account linked to my xbox live account.

Hi,

Unfortunately you can't switch a profile to a different MS account from the Xbox One, currently the only way to do it is from an Xbox 360:

the only thing you can change is the email address used to sign into a Microsoft Account (Xbox Live Account), this will only change the email address used to sign into the account. (It doesn't transfer the full Xbox Live Account to a different Microsoft
Account)

Changing gamertags, will only result in a different gamertag, it does not change the account or take any save game progress with it.

Is the change sign-ing email address option what you seek or do you want to achieve something else?

Hey there!

Once a Microsoft Account has a Gamertag associated to it, an Xbox Live Gamertag migration is not possible. Unfortunately in this case that means that your GMX email will not be able to migrate to your Gmail due to it already having an Xbox Live account tied

Hi there,

be aware that if there is still currency on the account, this may prevent you from moving the account to a different Microsoft Account.

If it's just the primairy email address you want to change you can also try the steps mentioned here:

support.xbox.com/.../change-email-sign-in-for-microsoft-account

This won't move the xbox live account to a different Microsoft Account, but will only change the primairy email address used for the xbox live account (and Microsoft Account)
