Changing Microsoft Account related to gamertag from a PC( without the use of an X-Box)

Greetings,

Few days ago I decided to create a new Microsoft account (an outlook.com to be precise).

The reason was because I wanted to have a secondary secure e-mail along with my primary Hotmail(this account) that has my gamertag and Windows 8.1 registered to it.

But I also decided to add a gamertag to that outlook.com account.

The problem? Well when I tried to change the gamertag the system froze and it saved a gameratg I didn’t want. So now if I want to now change the gameratg I would have to pay which is something I’m not willing to do...(especially since

1) paying money to change a gamertag is something that doesn’t sit well with me and

2) my very first gamertag/GFWL account got suspended when trying to do that, which also resulted losing a great game (Lost Planet 2)because it’s key was slaved to the gamertag ))



So I decided to follow your instructions and free this new account from the gamertag by transferring it to another windows live ID, in order to create another…with the right tag this time.

Unfortunately your instructions require and X-Box console (which is something that I have l no intention of acquiring, my Windows 8.1 PC covers all my needs.)

So I would like to know if it is possible to transfer/switch a gamertag to another e-mail,using my PC and not an X-Box Console.



P.S. I tried following your instructions by using the Games for Windows Live client in Halo 2 but it always directs me to your site.

Changing gamertag without x-box

Hi, I don't have a x-box console, so please tell me how to change my gamertag. This is very important issue to me. Microsoft promised I can change it one time for free. It will be unfair if I should have a x-box just for changing gamertag. So let me know
how to do it. Do I have to use a desktop or can I do it with my phone, Lumia 900.

Hi there,

You can change your gamertag in Games for Windows Live. I don't know if it will work on a phone, you'll probably want to be on a computer to do it.

Typically the free name change has to be done within 30 days of creating the account. Hopefully you're still within that time frame.
