    Changing Microsoft account associated to xbox live account/gamertag


    I no longer use the email account I used when I first setup my xbox. I therefore have a gamertag and xbox live account that is associated to a redundant email account.

    I have subsequently created a new Microsoft account associated to a new email account. I want the original gamertag, which my son uses regulalry, associated to the new Microsoft account.

    Any ideas how this can be achieved?

    How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

    Overview

    It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

    Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

    How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on Xbox.com

    1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

    2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

    How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on your console.

    1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

    2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

    3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

    4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

    5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

    In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

    I'm not interested in changing my mail. My question is about changing the microsoft account associated with my gamertag on xbox live. :) I wan't to associate my sons microsoft account with the gamertage on my Microsoft account. But thanks anyways...

    Switch your gamertag to a different Microsoft account

    You can change the Microsoft account that is associated with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. Here’s how:

    1.Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

    2.Go to Settings and select Account.

    3. Scroll right to Your Information and select Account Security.

    4. Select Change Windows Live ID. (Your Windows Live ID is your Microsoft account. Find out more.)

    5.Do one of the following:

    *If you have another Microsoft account, select Yes.

    * If you do not have another Microsoft account, go to accounts.live.com and click Sign up. After you have another

    . Microsoft account set up, select Yes and continue with the next step.

    5.Enter the password for the Microsoft account that is currently associated with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

    6. Enter the email address and the password for the new Microsoft account that you want to associate with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

    7.Select Yes, change to change the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox LIVE account.

    8. Select Update Contact Information to update your contact information or Done to finish.

    The Microsoft account associated with this account is not valid.

    Important Do not delete your profile from any storage device before completing the steps below. Also, do not try to download your Xbox LIVE gamertag from Xbox LIVE.

    To fix this problem, you need to associate a valid Microsoft account with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. Here’s how:

    Change the Microsoft account (Windows Live ID) associated with your account

    1. When you get the “Windows Live ID associated with this account is not valid” error, select
      Change Windows Live ID.
    2. Select Continue.
    3. Type the email address of the Microsoft account (Windows Live ID) that you want to associate with your gamertag.
    4. Type the password that is associated with this Windows Live ID.
    5. Confirm that the Microsoft account information is correct.
    6. Accept the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Privacy Statement. If you select Decline, your changes will not be made.
    7. Complete the changes and then return to the Xbox dashboard.
    8. Sign in to Xbox LIVE with your gamertag.
    If you still can’t sign in, contact Xbox Support.

    Notes

    •When you change your Microsoft account, your Microsoft Points are automatically transferred to the new Microsoft account.

    •You can make only one Microsoft account change for a given gamertag every 30 days.

    •You must also wait 30 days after your gamertag is downloaded from Xbox LIVE before you can switch that gamertag to a different Microsoft account. If 30 days have not passed since the gamertag was downloaded, you’ll get an error message.

    •Before you can change the Microsoft account associated with a child account, you must provide the Microsoft account information for the adult account that has parental control.

    •You can choose to require input of your Microsoft account password to sign in to Xbox LIVE. For more information on how to do this, see Password-protect your Xbox LIVE profile.
