  2. If you are getting that error, it means you can't merge the two accounts. It's possible that another gamertag or billing account is associated with the account that you are trying to move the gamertag over to. In general, I'd recommend adding an alias to
the account instead of changing MSA anyway. (See previous post)

The email I'm moving to does not have a gamertag associated with it. I'm 100% positive on this. If there was a gamertag on it, there would be an avatar standing in my games app on my phone and computer.

Changing the alias does not work. Because the account I'm moving to is already a Microsoft account, it can't be an alias.

I'm currently waiting 30 days for the security measures to clear. Then I'll transfer it to a temporary account, wait another 30 days, and try moving to the one I want.

Please help. When my son set up his xbox 360 account he mistyped email address. He has now got an xbox one and wants to transfer his profile and xbox live to it. He can't do this as we can't verify email . Trying to change Microsoft account to the one he
has on his windows 8 laptop ( no gamertag attached to this) but like everyone else, keep getting error code 8016FE6D and message saying "sorry there is a problem with the xbox service, try again later". Sorry not even sure how to access help with this. Really
would appreciate some help or direction

I reached an end to this whole mess. I poked Twitter support again because they were "investigating" and answered the same questions again. They asked me to login to commerce.xbox.com and see if there was a balance on either account. Everything that I had
was on one account and the one I was switching too had nothing.

They then asked me if I had ever made a purchase on the account I was trying to switch back too. Of course I had because it was my MS account for years. I mentioned to them that the commerce site showed all subscriptions, purchases et all on the current
account and nothing was on the old account. They told me that I can't switch back to the old account because I had made purchases on it.

When I asked about all the apps on my Windows Phone I was given a link that said sorry Charlie, you're buying all of it again if you want it back. Thanks for playing.

At this point I was done trying, went to the old account and closed it out. The commerce site said I still had a OneDrive subscription even though I had just closed the account I used to login to it, go over the account still open and notice that it now
has an extra 50 gigs of storage. Look at the account and sure enough the subscription just popped over, even though every support person swore to me that it wasn't possible.

I reset my phone and set it up using the newer account, went to windowsphone.com to make sure find my phone was working, had to accept the terms for the app store and all that jazz and all my app purchases are now associated to the new account. Something
I was also told could not happen.

I wasn't so lucky with my Windows 8 app purchases but I had only actually paid for two things and only used one anymore. Either way, all of my stuff is back on a single account and I am done with this mess. I hope the rest of you get some sort of resolution
    as well!

    UncleToxie,

What did you do exactly, I didn't quite get the process you went through to get it moved over to you other account.

    Can you elaborate more?

    Thanks

  7. Hey there

Are you actually wanting to merge the accounts together?

Or change your Microsoft Email Address?

Also, I noticed that some one said that they have two Microsoft Accounts. It had me thinking and quite suspicious. Then I did some digging and found, if you have been trying to make an allied account that already exists.

    You Can't

There's no way of proving that its actually you, that owns the account. I'm not saying yoir hacking, I'm saying. For your Security, you are unable to link or have a Microsoft Account that exists already. I have tried my self. It says "This email address
is already taken. Please try a different one"

I have also looked it up, and found the same thing. You can not add the a Microsoft Account that already exists.

Anyway, Please post back answeres to questions above

    Regards

  8. Changing Microsoft account accosiated with gamer tag

I was getting the same error code 8016FE6D.

The post by Available Wizman worked for me TODAY March 22, 2014.

I had been trying to change my son's xbox account to his email from mine for months.

When you read all the instructions xbox gives, they tell you to not have the new email associated with another gamertag, but they make it seem like it must be associated with a live account. THIS IS NOT TRUE. If the email you want to use is signed up on
live.com you cannot add it as a second alias.

First I set up a new gmail account that will only be used to my son's gamertag and did not sign up for live.com with it.

Then I followed the instructions below.

    1. Go to login.live.com

    2. Sign In with your email and password used on the console

    3. Underneath overview click account Alias

    3. Click word add alias and add your new email account that you would like to use

    4. Verify email email by clicking verify

    5. Follow the steps in verifying the email

    6. After verify the email you click promote to primary

Afterwards test it make sure it work by signing out then signing back in with the new email if you find this correctly should see the old email . Then can remove old email

If you cannot verify your primary there is still away to change the email

So I added the new email in the alias, had to verify the new email, changed the new email to the primary alias, then deleted my original email off the account.

I just went into xboxlive on his console and it made me enter the new email and password for his gamertag.

I then went online to www.xbox.com/live to make sure his xboxlive online account also had the new email and IT DID!

The only bummer I encountered is I wanted to use his main email and not the brand new one. So, i deleted his main email from the live account and after 30 days I will try to switch again - but so happy I got my personal email off of his xbox account.

Well, I'm still stuck. I see how DogASSASSIN10 's method would work, but here's my issue: the old email that I'm trying to switch off of is connected to my parent's windows 8 computer. Changing the primary alias would mean changing the email on their computer.

I'm again going to try and switch to a fake/temporary email first, wait 30 days, then switch to my real one. I believe this plan is similar to DogASSASSIN's, just I won't be using the computer to change aliases.

It sounds like this is going to work, I'll be able to tell for sure by the end of May or early June (thanks to these 30 day security restrictions).

This is extremely frustrating. I'm hoping if enough of us post complaints Microsoft will eventually listen and make a change. I've been trying to deal with this issue for over 4 months now and everything I try ends in failure. At the very least Microsoft
tech support needs the ability to get into the database and make changes to your user account when nothing else will work. There is no need for a 30 day waiting period in the first place. It makes no sense that you must do this from an Xbox 360 console,
and cannot from a computer (or even from an Xbox ONE)! WTF Microsoft?!?! I thought you actually wanted customers! But from your behavior, it seems you want to get RID of the ones you have.

Same problem here, and also extremely frustrated. My gamertag is on one account, but I want to switch it over to the account I use on my Windows 8 devices, because I no longer want to use that old email address for anything. I've followed all the instructions,
spoken to Microsoft support, waited 30 days over and over again, to no avail.

I just wish Microsoft would redesign this mechanism and give us an easy way to do this on the web.

  13. Changing Microsoft account accosiated with gamer tag

So, tried it again switching from the dummy account to the account I wanted and still got the same error message. Went back to chat support and told them the issue and how the "solution" the last chat representative gave me didn't work. This one had me try
clearing the system cache on my console doing a hard reboot to see if that would work. It didn't. And this is what they then told me:

"Drat. I'm reading up on this error code and it is looking like a whole new world of error codes. The issue needs to be escalated. Though, currently we are unable to do escalations through chat. I would have you call in and (sadly explain the situation one
more time) But just basically tell them that you need to get the issue escalated for a broken account. From there, they might try some troubleshooting, though I hope not, because everything that I am reading here just basically says to get Microsoft to look
at it and have the Advocacy team handle it."

So basically this is the error code from hell. I'm gonna try calling tomorrow to have it escalated. The representative also said the more people who call in about it the better, cause it will be more likely to get the attention of the "big dogs" in the company
to take care of it. This is the number for the support team: 1-800-469-9269. The support I chatted with also gave me a service request number that noted the situation and that I needed the problem escalated. I guess all we can do at this point is call them
to death over it until they get this crap fixed. Really wish they could just go into our accounts and get things changed over when there's a problem like this so we wouldn't have to go to all this trouble over something that should've been simple.

    Fellow 8016FE6D Sufferers!

I'm happy to inform you that there is at least one observed occurence in history where 8016FE6D was resolved successfully(to my great satisfaction).

My problem/situation: trying to change gamertag from account A to account B, both MS accounts, where account B also has a gamertag. Account B is my main account except for xbox. So its the textbook case as in described here:

    support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

I was able to move "clean" account B of its gamertag, to make it free for the transfer from account A. Moving from account A to B resulted in 8016FE6D.

I explained my problem to the Xbox online chat support thingie and after the usual rounds(no money on either accounts, security mails setup, xbox cache cleaning, etc) they opened a ticket and told me they will get back to me by mail.

The first agent who reached out to me couldn't really help - I kept pushing and asked for escalation to the next level. I'm usually not too nice in these mails as the replies I'm getting from them indicating that either they haven't read my mail and problem
statement or they sent a template mail.

After a few rounds I've been transferred to another agent who seemed more adept. Long story short he told me that there are some problems with account B (the target account). Namely: it is set up as a business account and apparently you can't migrate gamertags
to business accounts(either that, or you can't migrate between personal and business accounts. I don't know if you can between business accounts)

This was partially true, if you go to commerce.microsoft.com you can see the type of your account in the upper right corner(along with the country). Now normally you only have one, but in my case I had 3 accounts setup(all under account B). 2 personal and
1 business accounts, in different countries. I don't know how to setup an account as business account under an already existing one or how to delete it, but it was there anyway.

I asked my agent if he can delete the business accounts as I have no need of them. A week later he returned and told me the problem with my account have been fixed, I should be able to migrate - and I could.

Now this does not mean that having more then one accounts(one of them business) was my problem - I've been only told that the problem was fixed. I asked for clarification so I can share it here but in any case this could be a helpful direction for everyone
trying to figure out 8016FE6D. Once I get some information back about the actual problem I will post it here.

Also note that 8016FE6D might be a more general error code and several different problems can invoke it - we don't know that, so it could be that something works for other won't work for you.

    And to recap:

    - I had no outstanding money or MS point balance on either accounts

    - account A was a "single" personal account

    - account B had 3 accounts under it, two of those were business accounts

    - both accounts had security mails and phone set up. The security mails were different. The security mails were also not set to each other(meaning, account B wasn't the security mail of account A)

    - account B has an office subscription (I read this somewhere that this could be the problem - it wasn't in my case)

Hope this helps and good luck!

And the follow up, I copy here the answer of the helpful support staff who solved my problem:

"The issue is occurring from multiple profiles being present on the account, which is causing an error, since the profiles must be consolidated before any changes can be made to the name of the email. If there are any others who are experiencing this issue,
suggest that they be escalated to Xbox Tier 3 support. Any one of our Microsoft account specialists will be able to address the situation."

So I guess the problem was indeed with having more then one profiles.
