    Here's the situation - I have a Microsoft Live account that was created many years ago, and somehow has an XBox gamertag associated with it even though we never had an XBox. I have an XBox 360 with a profile on it that has no associated Live account. I want
    to use that existing Live account with the existing XBox profile.

    From reading the websites, I gather that what I need to do is use a temporary Live account - I downloaded the existing Live account with its gamertag onto my XBox, and I created a throw-away Live account. The plan was to change the downloaded XBox profile
    from the existing Live account to the throw-away account, thereby freeing up the existing Live account. I could then connect my existing XBox profile to the existing Live account.

    However, when I try to change the downloaded profile from the existing Live account to the new throw-away account, it fails, saying it cannot change the Live account at this time.

    What am I doing wrong?

    How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

    Overview

    It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

    Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

    How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on Xbox.com

    1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

    2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

    How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on your console.

    1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

    2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

    3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

    4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

    5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

    In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

    Now that I think about it, I may have given some unnecessary information in my post, which may be confusing the issue. I'm trying to do the process defined on this page on "How to change the Microsoft account email address associated with Xbox Live":

    support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

    I'm going through the 9 steps at the top. After step 8, I get an error that the change cannot be made at this time (I'm at work right now and don't remember the exact text of the message).

    Hi, there are two ways to accomplish what you are trying to do.

    Option 1: Associate the account that is signing in currently with a Microsoft Account and then disassociate the account in the users menu in Settings. This will free the user up to sign-in with another xbox account on next launch.

    Option 2: Registry editing (see steps to do this below).

    Registry Editing (Option 2)

    1. Open a Run Prompt (windows key + R)

    2. Type “regedit” (without the quotes)

    Navigate to this location: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\Immersive\Production

    3. Delete the entries there

    4. The next time the user launches the app, the user will be prompted to sign-in again

    I found a very simple solution. Change the password on you Microsoft account. Then when you go back to Solitaire collection it will ask you for your password. Don't enter it but continue. Then tap the sign in button at the top right of the screen and you
    should be able to put your new account in. It may not work right away - it didn't for me, but wait and it will work.
