Changing how a GamerTag is presented in game, without paying/changing the actual GamerTag...

The only way would be to change the tag to something no one else has. The suffix is added when a tag is already in use. It will show as a # and the numbers in areas that have been updated to work with that system, but in areas that still use the old system, the numbers are added to the tag.

Regardless of since you got thenhashtag you would change the name since it has the hashtag

It means it's taken changing the name twice will only issue you a new hashtag

It wont accomplished what you want unless you have a unique name

Thank you for your post .I understand you are experiencing an issue with you with a recent gamertag change. If you selected a gamertag but accidentally accepted the changes without verifying your change, you must pay the gamertag change fee to correct it.
Unfortunately, there is no way to edit a gamertag without paying for a change.

I changed my gamertag to "tosya" thinking that it would be "tosya" in-game, but it's "tosya7641" instead. I thought that the number would only be for adding a friend etc. like how it is in Discord. I wasn't informed that I would not have the gamertag
i picked. If I knew that I would have picked a different gamertag. I want to either change only my classic gamertag without paying for a gamertag change, or revert to my old gamertag.

The only way to change it would be to pay for it again. Unfortunately.

It's not possible to delete gamertags. If you wanted to change the gamertag two times you would need to pay 1,600 Microsoft Points (800 Microsoft Points for each gamertag change). So first you'd change the gamertag of SrTommy to something else, and then
you'd be able to change SrTommy1981 to SrTommy. It's not possible to do this without paying as gamertags cannot be deleted.
