Changing hard drive in Xbox One S without voiding the warranty

    Hi,

The hard drive in the Xbox One S is not user upgradeable/replaceable. If you want more storage you need to buy an external USB hard drive.

Replacing the drive yourself will void your warranty and Microsoft will no longer repair your console, even if you offer to pay. Also a larger drive will lead to a console ban as will know if your internal drive is larger than what they provide.

    360 Slim External Hard Drive

You can use the 20 Gig hard drive, but it voids all warranty.

You have to strip the plastic, and connect it to the inside where the regular Xbox S hard drive would go.

should i remove the hard drive

The hard drive is internal and not easily removable without opening your console which voids the warranty and Microsoft would not touch it if it's been opened. So it's best not to remove it.

Forced to buy hard drive to play Battlefield 4

Actually, You ever heard of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act? Simply breaking the sticker does not void the warranty, you would have to cause damage to the xbox's hardware to void the warranty. The act also covers the use of an aftermarket hard drive. And
as for the proprietary encryption on that hard drive is covered by the Sherman Antitrust Act. So basically Microsoft cannot ban you or void your warranty for taking the 360 apart or for using aftermarket equipment. Hope this helps people.
