Changing Gamertag

I've had my xbox for over 2 years now and i wanted to change my gamertag because i chose one from xbox and they say i can change it once for free, so i go on my profile to change my gamertag and whenever i try to claim it, it wants me to be charged.

No, Changing your gamertag is not required. Changing your gamertag is all up to you

Xbox one followers privacy/spam concerns. END IT

Even if you change your Gamertag, you purchases and saves are still locked to your account. I could change my gamertag right now and I still have everything. It stays with the email address you signed up with, not gamertag.

The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag at the time you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since the tag you're using is not a randomly generated tag, you would have to pay if you want
to change it.

Yes, changing the gamertag again should be possible, als changing back to your previous Gamertag is possible, as long as your original Gamertag isn't already taken by somebody else.

Keep in mind each change will require a payment.

I'm afraid there are no free gamertag changes, if a gamertag was deemed to break the CoC/ToU then you will given a generated one and if you want to change the gamertag into something chosen by yourself it will have the fee like any gamertag change.
