    Hi,

    I've had the same and only gamertag for nearly six years, but I just went to change it (supposedly your first change is free) and it tried to charge me right at the end of the process.

    Any ideas why???

    Gamertag Change/Deletion - Can the old Gamertag be re-used?

    Scratch that question, you've already answered it. Is there any waiting period or should the Gamertag be free to use straight after changing it?

    Changing Gamertag - should be free...

    The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag and are changing it to something of your choosing for the first time. Since you have a tag you chose, you have already used your free change and will have to pay.

    Hey there.

    The free change is only from the randomly generated tag that you are given when you create an account now (so you can choose your own name once). It looks like "Shimmings" is a name you selected, so that would be the one free selection.

    Further changes to your gamertag will need the $10 fee.

    Forced Gamer Tag Change, Decision Overturned, Unable to contact XBLPET

    When a forced gamertag change is overturned your gamertag is not changed back automatically. You should be able to change it for free.

    My gamertag was forcibly changed and now I have to pay for a new one.

    If your gamertag is forcibly changed you should get a free gamertag change. I didn't waste $10 to have my gamertag removed.

    My gamertag is unique but I still got the numbers at the end

    Unfortunately, there is no way around this because the system will recognize that this is no longer the first change of the gamertag which is for free. Each account can only have one free gamertag and the next should already have a charge to change it.
