    i have contacted xbox support and they told me to post it in here for further investigating. So the issue is, your supposed to be able to change your gamertag one time for free. I have never changed my gamertag since i have had my account. I go to try and
    do my gamertag change for the first time ever and it's trying to charge me 9.99? I have never changed my gamertag before and your supposed to get your first change for free...

    Can't change gamertag for free

    I can't change my gamertag for free even without changing it for the first time. I've had the same one for about 3 three years, and it's the only one I've had. I was wondering if I could get some help on the issue.

    Uhh... Why should we now be entitled to free gamertag changes?

    It's still going to cost $10 to change your gamertag. What does making unused gamertags available have to do with removing the $10 fee?

    The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag and have not changed that. Since yours is one that you chose, you will have to pay to change your tag.

    We're afraid that if you're seeing that, that means your one-time free gamertag change was already used by your account. A one-time free gamertag change is only provided to an account if their gamertag was automatically selected for them when they joined
    Xbox Live. If you received an auto-generated gamertag and changed your gamertag once before, that would have been your free change and you would not be eligible for another one.

    You cannot just request a free gamertag change. The support on the phone only change your gamertag for free since it was for privacy issues and/or your one and only free gamertag change.

    So unfortunately you cannot just ask for a FNC.
