Changing email addresses on a profile .

For the past 3 months I been trying to change my email on my account. Every time this box pop up saying "Sorry we can't change your Microsoft account right now, For more info go to...." and I made like 2 Microsoft accounts already and nothing is happing.
I waited 30+ days this last time and still nothing going

 

Well , guys , still no joy in swapping my email addresses on my profile . Went to MS support & finally verified my old expired email account ( did the same thing last year in order to recover my profile , don't understand why I had to do it again ). Even
though they know it's me , I still get the " Sorry we can't .... message ". Going to try to get another email address with one unrelated to MS , not sure how to do that . I wish there was a way to find out whether or not I'm under a possible 30 day waiting
period . Once before ( last year during a security upgrade ) I was told that the waiting period had started & when it ended ( about 35 days later ) I received an email telling everything's OK . This time around , nothing , possibly because my old address can't
send or receive messages . Still there should be some kind of status page to access so dummies like me aren't left in the dark . Back later with my results .

 

Do you have any currency left on the account and just to be sure when was the last time you downloaded the profile to the console?

 

Sorry I haven't responded sooner , waited awhile to make sure any 30 day waiting period had passed . I've only got about 5 cents in my account , which is one reason I'm trying to swap out now . I'm getting absolutely nowhere . Here's the deal . I was told
I needed to verify my old , expired account ; so I did , through MS support . Then I created a new MS account not associated with any profile . Tried the swap , no go . Went to Chat support ,deleted the profile , cleared the cache 3 times , downloaded profile
, tried swap again ( with Chat rep ) & still , nothing ! Tried Chat support again , only to be told escalation can't help & that I shouldn't worry about an old , expired email address because I can still use it ( ? ) & that I should just add an alternate backup
address to the old account , which I have no intention of doing . I'm still at a loss here . This is ridiculous . Nothing works & I can't get any answers that make sense .

the 5 cents could be the cause, but there is likely not something to buy with just 5 cents. Also the advise to redownload the profile does have reset the 30 day period before you can change the profiles address.

Have you tried calling Xbox Support instead of the support chat?

 

A new idea ; if I go to my MS account page ( the old , expired , but verified one ) there is an option to remove that alias . Says ; add a new one & make it primary , then delete old address from the account . That sounds like a swap to me . Before I try
it , I'm wondering if that would automatically swap out on the Xbox profile ? I don't want to screw up that profile , has years worth of achievements ! Your thoughts , anyone ? Maybe somewhere else I can go to verify this ?

 

Another 30 day reset after downloading a profile ? The Chat rep guy had me doing this during the walkthrough to do the swap . Doesn't make sense . You can see why this has my head spinning !

 

I have seen reports about an account swap like that, but the limitation that was mentioned was that it needs to be a non Microsoft account email, so no @hotmail, @live, @outlook etc. The only problem is that I personally have never seen proof (yet) of this
actually working.

And it does seem weird that he suggested downloading the profile, but I'm pretty sure that it does reset the 30 day part, so you need to wait at least 30 days after downloading, since it is a security measure to prevent people being able to quickly steal
accounts.

I personally still think that the 5 cents are the cause, but how to remove them....

 

To WPAK , the money shouldn't be an issue , you are informed before the swap that money will not transfer . As for the " non MS account email " , I've seen something similar to that but can't remember where , & other than Apple email I don't of any other
service . Each profile can only have one email account associated to it ; I have 2 profiles , one with a working email address & the problem profile with the outdated ( but verified ) address . When I first attempted the swap I tried to use the working address
from the other profile & was told I needed another account not associated with a profile . I made another email account but it's not working . The accounts I'm working with are cox.net ( the expired one , associated with #1 profile ) , gmail.com ( associated
with #2 profile ) , & outlook.com ( the address I want to swap to profile #1 ) . Profile #1 has all of the achievements that took me years to get , profile #2 is secondary , for my little nephews to use when they're visiting . I've gone to a MS support service
& asked about swapping out alias's in my cox.net account ( & then deleting cox , making outlook the primary )& how that would effect my profile . Waiting for an answer , will post it here when I get it .

 

Another weird thing today ; I've been getting Xbox email promotions to my #2 profile with the gmail.com address for over a year now , but nothing to my #1 profile with the expired cox.net profile ( can't send or receive messages there ) , but today I get
promos' to both profiles in my gmail account ( ? ). Apparently , when I verified the expired account , my gmail.com address was added as a backup to the expired account . I went back to the console & attempted the swap , but still no joy . My accounts are
verified as mine & I'm following the proper procedures but nothing works . Don't understand how something that should be simple & straightforward could be so messed up ! Still waiting for advice from MS support , be back later .

 

About the currency I know it is mentioned but what I've heard is that sometimes it still can cause problems.

Regarding the process, it should definitely be a straightforward process, but I personally think that there is some odd issue preventing it in your situation.

Let's hope support will get back to you soon with a solution.

 

I concur with WPAK; the 5 cents could be an issue because I've gotten also gotten the message "Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now."

Upon talking with support, I discovered that one of the requirements for changing the Microsoft account associated with your gamertag is to use up all of the currency in your account, even though currency doesn't transfer over.

After spending my currency, I no longer got that error message and was able to swap associated Microsoft accounts.

To get rid of the 5 cents then, I could suggest adding an credit card and making a split purchase using both the points and the card on the console, or check commerce.microsoft.com and see if those 5 cents expire anytime soon.

Well guys , I got rid of that 5 cents ; zero on my books & no credit cards . After waiting to get a new PC monitor & waiting for last weekends service alerts regarding management of accounts to get fixed , I tried the swap . No go ! All I can think of is
that last April 30 ( when chat rep had me delete my profile , clear cache 3 times & download the profile back ) I may have triggered a 30 day wait period . If so , this Friday ( 5 - 30 - 14 ) I'll start trying the swap every day for about a week . See what
happens . Later .

 

Downloading a profile does reset the 30 day counter, I'm 100% sure about that. So I still have good hopes it will work in a few days
